To wl whom it m 1y concem:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A.,GaocKER, of Stockton, in the county of Waldo'and State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Sanding-Rollemof which the following is a specification: c
My invention consists of a pair of rollers arranged insideof the roller on which the,
sand-paper is fastened, to hold the sand-paper on tightand smooth, by receiving the ends between them through a slit-in the roll, and
drawing theln in tightly, the rolls being extended out through oneend of the large roller,
so as to befturnedby hand, and being geared together so as to be/turned alike;
c Figure lgis partly aside elevation and partlya sectional elevation of my improved sanding-roller, and Fig-2 is a transverse section takenon line y y of Fig. 1. v
Similar "letters of! reference indicate corre .sponding parts.
A "s the sandingrollegwhich is ,made of c h wood or any other approved substance, with,
' a slit, B, along one side opening into a hollow space,-C, in which is a pair of drawing-rol1s, D, extending the whole length of the-roller, and gearedtogetherat one end by toothed wheels E, ssid'rolls being to receive the ends F of the sand-paper G, to be applied to the roll for sandpapering boot and shoe soles or other work, and draw them in so as to tighten the paper on the roll and hold it fast. A
ratchet or other device for holding the rolls,
so as to keep the paper tight, will be employed. H is a hollow space made in the roll A opposite to the chamber containing the tightening-rolls for inserting material for balancing the main roll after the tightening-rolls have been fitted in. a
By preference the roll A ismade of two halt parts fastened together by a metal cap, I, I
on eachend.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentg Y Thecolnbina'tion, with sectional roll having -end shoulders, of the end caps, which both hold the sections together and form bearings for the tightening-rolls, as shown and described. i t A GEORGE A. OROOKER.
