My invention consists of a pick whose headis formed with a socket or sockets for the reception of detachable bits, the bits and socket being irmly held by wedging-joints.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the yhead of the pick, in the end or ends of Which is. a socket, B, for the reception of bits G, .0n theinner face of the socketthere is an inwardly-projecting wedge-shaped tongue, D, and onthe face of the bit there is a V'or wedge-shaped groove, E, or vice versa, the location of the tongge and bit being such that when the bit is fitted in the socket the tongue will enter the groove. v

Having thus described my irrvention, what I claim as new, and desire vto secureby Letters 1. The pick-head A formed with an end socket, B, whose inner face is formed with a wedge-shaped tongue or groove, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The pick-head A formed with an end socket, B, and the detachable bit C tted to the socket by a wedging-joint, and held by means of a set-screw, F, passing through the wall ot' the socket, substantially A.as and for the purpose set forth.
