PLACE, AND LEMUEL IMPROVEMENT IN wAsl-nue AND WRINGING MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l74 ,l53, dated February 29, 1876; application filed i August 12, 1874. V 4
Be it known that I, JAMES W.
gheny, State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Combined Machine for Washing and Wringing, of which the following is a specification: r
My invention relates to that class of washing and wringing machines in which a revolving fluted or corrugated roller is made to play from below against wooden gum or rub:
ber covered revolving rolls above.
In. my machine the fluted roller or Washer A, Figure 1, is combined with the wooden gumcovered rolls R R in one frame, either of wood or galvanized iron, and in such a way that a crank (attached at the pleasure and convenience of the operator, by means of a set-screw, to the elongated shaft of eitherthe lower guincovered roll or the wooden corrugated roller) moves the whole machine. The fluted roller or washer A, Fig. l, rests and revolves in and upon a bearing, Fig. 1, set' in the spiral metallic'springs E E inside the journal-boxes T T underneaththe lower roll R, which lower roll R rests upon and revolves'inthe journals on top oft-he journal-boxes T T. By means of the spiral metallic springs E E resting upon the lower plate of theframe, the fluted roller A is pressed up firmly from below against the lower roll R, but springing downward, form- 1 ing the washer. The upper roll is arranged to Work against and revolve in the wooden boxes K K, upon which is a gum ball, a, on each sidepressed upon by the' adjustable REED,of the .cit'y'ofiPittsburg, in the county of Allea hook-shaped extension of the lower part of the frame is made to bitch, and at the other end by means of a sliding bar fitting into the clamp-slot screwed on the side of the tub; said bar is made to slide in the bearing on the bottom of the frame, and is secured by means of a set-screw. The frame, either of wood or galvanized iron, consists of a'bottom piece, as heretofore described, with hollowed upright posts for the springcontaining journal-boxes heretofore mentioned.
Lclaim as my invention The elongatedjournal-boxes T T, containing spiral metallic springs E E, bearing up the corrugated roller A resting and revolving in and uponthe-journals, said'journal-boxes at the same time shstaining upon their top,'in the journal, the lower gum-covered roll, as heretofore set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand this 29th day of September, 1875.
