Description

Dec. 31, 1929. A. DIAZ 1,741,407
HAIR CLIP Filed April 4, 1928 Patented Dec. 31,1929
UNITED STATES ANGELO nIAz, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
HAIR CLIP Application filed April 4,
waving operations.
A further object of this invention includes the provision of a simple, economical and efficient clip for the purposes stated, which is quickly applied to varying positions and which is easily and quickly removed.
Other objects will appear hereinafter and I obtain these objects by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure l is atop plan view of my improved clip partly open.
Figure 2 is an end view.
Figure 8 is a view similar to Figure 1, but showing the clip partly closed.
Figure 4 is a back view of the clip shown in the position of Figure 1, and
Figure 5 is a View showing the clip wide open.
Like reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring now to the drawing for a preferred form of construction to which however I do not desire to limit myself, except as defined by the appended claims, I provide two flat comparatively wide clip blades 10 and 11, which are pivotally united by suitable means as a hollow rivet 12. Both blades 10 and 11 are provided with extensions or jaws 13 and 14 which overlap each other and have edges 15 and 16 for engaging a bunch of hair (not shown) at any desired position and close to the scalp. It will be noted that the blades are of a substantial width and when closed tightly about the tuft of hair, said blades serve as a shield to protect the scalp.
The clip blades are further provided with means for holding the jaws fastened in various positions, and with means for readily operating said holding means to effect a quick release from any one of the different holding positions. To accomplish these purposes, I provide one of said clip blades with a lever 20 having teeth 21 for engaging a cooperating stop or finger 22 on the companion blade.
1928. Serial N0. 267,172.
Lever 20 has a tail piece 23 which under certain conditions engages the stop shoulder 24 formed by the upturned end 25 or the clip blade which carries the lever on the pivot member or screw 26.
A spring 27 on said pivot member has one end in the turner end 25 and the other bears against the stop 28 in the lever whereby the lever is tensioned onto the stop finger 22. A boss 29 on lever 20 and guide 30 properly spaces and guides said lever in the plane of finger 22. The guide piece 30 is an extension of the turned tail end 31 on the clip blade which carries the top finger. Any desired number of teeth may be supplied on lever 20 and the clip jaw edges 15 and 16 may assume greater or lesser curves so as to vary the shape and extent of the hair holding portion. In operation however, it will be necessary to close tightly said opening about the hair so as to lock off steam from the scalp during the hair curling operation.
The clip is readily closed by pressing together the clip aws with the thumb and finger for example engaging the respective turned ends 25 and 31. It will be evident that by this construction the clip can be quickly and effectively applied. To disengage the clip lever 20 is depressed. This can be quickly done by one hand, letting the thumb engage the end 31 while the finger of the operator presses on the end of lever 30 to thus open the clip.
Having now described my invention, which I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A hair clip comprising a pair of blades pivotally united at one end having overlapping jaws with curved edges for engaging a tuft of hair and the like, a pivotally mounted member carried on one of said blades, a stop member and a guide piece carried by the other of said blades, said pivotally mounted member guarded by said guide piece and engaging said stop member to hold the blades at different positions.
2. In a hair clip, a pair of members having extending surfaces, said members united pivotally at one end thereof, a pivot member carried on one of said members, a spring and a lever mounted on said pivot member and a stop finger and a guide piece carried on the other member of said pair of members for engaging said lever.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set 5 my hand on this 31st day of March A. D.,
