This invention relates to a cigarette extinguisher and receiver and has for its primary object the arrangement of the component parts of the device in such a relation 5 that the, lighted end of the cigarette may be very readily extinguished and deposited into a suitable receptacle or the extinguished cigarette held in a convenient position to be readily removed for second use.

An obj ect of the invention is the novel manner of constructing and arranging the extinguishing device with relation to the receptacle so that the former may perform the dual function of a cover for the receptacle and an extinguisher,

Another object of the invention is the designing of the cover so that the same may either smother the ignited end of the cigarette or receive ashes therefrom to be directed into the receptacle.

Besides the above, my invention is distinguished inthe use of a combination cover and extinguisher mounted to be partially rotated for opening and closing a receptacle so as to allow ashes or burnt cigarettes to be readily deposited into the receptacle in an extinguished condition.

A feature of the invention is the simplicity of construction and manner of connecting the component parts so that the article as a whole may be manufactured at a relatively low cost.

With these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the welding or by the use of tongues carried by the receptacle and interlocking in'slots in the tray.

I have found itis of a decided advantage to so design-this device that the same may perform the dual function of a cover for the receptacle and 35 anextinguisher for the ignited cigarette, thereby enabling the user to completely extinguish a cigarette as deposited into the receptacle.

To accomplish these desirable results, the extinguishing device is constructed to have a body member 4 and a cover 5, the former provided with a marginal rim 6 effectively secured to the upper edge portion of the receptacle. The member 4 is further provided with a centrally located neck 7 depending into and opening directlyinto the receptacle 2. Should the cigarette only be partly consumed it can be extinguished in one of the recesses andleft in the recess until removed by the user for second use. As the tube 10 opens centrally of the cover it will be appreciated that in the smoking of a cigarette the ashes may be deposited into the tube to be conveyed thereby to the receptacle 2. Thus it will be appreciated that the device may be used for receiving ashes during the smoking of a'cigarette, used to extinguish a cigarette while holdingthe cigarette in position to be readily removed for second use and may be also used for extinguishing a cigarette butt and dlsposing of the cigarette butt out of sight after being extinguished. It is, of course, to be understood that various parts may be designed in various other manners than illustrated and connected together in other relations and in fact the extinguishing devicemay be used with or without the receptacle and tray and in fact may be put to various other uses than illustrated and described, therefore, I do not desire tobe limited in protection in any manner whatsoever, except as set forth in the following claims.
