TYPEWRITER AND BILLING MACHINE RIBBON Filed May 13, 1927 INVENTOR flibwt L. Voubur BY flwimw ma ATTO R N EY Patented Dec. 10, 1929 UNITED-STATES ATENT OFFICE- ALBERT L. VOSBURG, OF ROCHESTER NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO KEE-LOX MANUFAC- TURING COMPANY, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK TYPEWRITER AND BILLING-MACHINE RIBBON Application filed May 13, 1927. Serial No. 191,257.
scribed; the novel features being pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is the plan view of a ribbon constructed in accordance with this invention;
and
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary enlarged view of the ribbon.
According to this invention an ink impregnated ribbon is formed of silk threads running-in one direction and cotton threads,
preferably the long fibre sea island orEgyptian cotton running transversely thereof. In this instance, the warp threads 1 are made entirely of cotton and the filler or weft threads 2 are made entirely of silk. By constructing the ribbon in this manner the advantages of the greater strength of the silk yarn is combined with the greater absorbency of the cotton so that a ribbon is produced which has more ink carrying capacity relatively to its caliper and its pounding strength than is available in the present all silk or all cotton ribbon. In other words, a ribbon is obtained of less thickness than the cotton I ribbon and having greater ink capacity than the silk ribbon without sacrificing the density of the impression desired. l/Vhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A ribbon of the class described having all the threads running in one direction formed of silk and all the threads running transversely thereof formed of cotton, the whole being impregnated with a suitable ink.
5 ALBERT L. VOSBURG.
