i invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims. i

Owing to the present day practice of rapid travel required of the chain in tentering machines, the constant severe banging or hammering action in opening and closing the swinging clip jaws to engage and release the work dulls the biting edges of the blades of the jaws, thereby necessitating frequent removal of the blades for resharpening or replacement. culty to a great extent, I have provided the swinging jaw with means for retaining a reversible blade having opposite working edges.
The construction also includes means where? by the blades can be quickly removed from the jaws, reversed and reset, and means for enabling the blades to be properly positioned.

The jaw 12is controlled in its swinging action by acontroller or feeler member 14, which may be delicately pivoted on a small pin 15 in a bracket 16 projecting rearwardly from a plate 17 carried by the jaw 12.
The purpose of the swinging jaw 12 is to grip the work (not shown) carried by a plate 18 on the fixed jaw 11, and in order to provide a wear surface for the swinging jaw I form a separate hardened steel blade 19 in the lower horizontal edge of this jaw.
In the present instance, the blade is reversible and has opposed beveled edges .20 formed longitudinally thereof, the blade being removably disposed in a slot 21 formed between the plate 17 and the lower portion 22 of the jaw 12.
For the purpose of enabling the plate to be quickly detached from or. aiiixed to the jaw, the plate has threaded openings 23 formed near each end thereof for receiving the screws 24 passed thru openings 25 in the jaw 12, the openings 23 being aligned with the openings 25 by means of pins 26 carried by thej aw 12 seating in correspondingly disposed openings 27 formed in the plate 17. j
Preferably the blade 19 should be slightly thicker than the width of the slot 21 so that when the screws 24- are set up the plate 17 will be drawn towards the portion 22 of the jaw to clamp the blade in position.
A pin 28 is carried by the portion 22 of the jaw 12. This pin is transversely disposed, and it is adapted, when the parts are being 5 ttSSGHlblGCl to project into an opening 29 formed in the plate 19. The pin should be so disposed inthe jaw that it will engage with a notch 30 formed in the edges of the blade 20, as clearly shown in Figure 2, to center the port on which the blade may rock while bei in set.
hen it is necessary to provide a new gripping edge for the swinging jaw 12, the blade 19 can be easily removed by loosening the screws 24 to permit a slight separation of the plate from the jaw whereupon the blade can be reversed edge for edge and'reinserted within the slot 21v with the notch in registration with the pin 28. The jaw 12 can now be moved to the position shown by Figure 1 so as to permit the blade 19 to rock on its backing pin 30 and be properly seated in alignment with the jaw 11 while such blade is-loosely mounted in the jaw 12. When the blade has been reset to the desired position,
the screws24 are tightened and the device is now ready for operation.
' In some instances, the two parts of the jaws 1-2yand 17 may be cast integral and slotted at its lower edge to receive the blade 19 which may be fitted into this slot and retained therein by separate clamps 31 shown in Fig. 8.
The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I'desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms ofthe appended claims.
The invention claimed is 1. In a tenter clip a jaw member, a reversible blade cooperating means on said jaw member and blade for aligning said blade on reversal thereof. and means for clamping said blade-to said jaw member.

In a tentering clip. the combination with notched blade detachably mounted within the said slot, meansfor clamping the blade to the jaw, and means carried by the jaw for engaging the notch in the blade to align the blade and prevent dislodgment thereof from the jaw. i j v 5. In a tentering clip. the combination with ajaw havingaslot formed therein, a detachable plate covering the slot. means for aligning said plate with the saidjaw, a reversible notched. blade mounted within the said slot and clamped to the jaw by the said plate, and means carried bv the jaw for engaging the notch in the blade.
