Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,892, dated February 22 1876; application filed January 29, 1876.

To all whom it may concern 7 Be it known that I, ISAAC S. BUNNELL, of Oarbondale, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Stalk andHay Gutters; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making'a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a longitudinal vertical section of my cutter, and Fig. 2 is an end view'thereof.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction andarrangement of a feed-cutter, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In the annexed drawing, A represents the ordinary feed box, provided at its front end with the mouth-piece B, and the box supported upon suitable legs 0. To one of the front legs is secured a face-plate, E, and to this .plate is pivoted a lever, D, by means of a pivot-bolt, a. This pivot-bolt is made adj ustable up and down, whereby the length of the draw-cut is easily'regulated. The lever D is curved, as shown, and to its upper end is fastened one end of the knife G, by two bolts, 1) b, and to the other end of the knife is fastened the handle H, by two bolts, 01 d. One

of these latter bolts passes through a slot, 0, in the handle, so that the handle can be adjusted up or down, to suit the convenience of a tall or short person using it. At the front pressing down on the treadle L, the board J is pulled down, compressing the feed while the same is being cut by the knife G. What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In a lever feed-cutter, the combination of the adjustable lever D, the knife G secured V thereto, and the handle H adjustably secured to the other end of the knife, for the purpose herein set forth.
