UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES HARDING BROWN, OF PORTERS MILLS, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER-CUTTING MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,633, dated August 29, 1876; application filed May 16,1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES H. BROWN, of Porters Mills, county of Eau Claire, and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Machine for Cutting Paper, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a lever fixed to swing horizontally around a vertical axis in a fulcrum-standard over a cutting-table, and carrying two roller-cutters, which are adjustable for cutting wider or narrower strips, also carrying a roller-gage for pressing on the sheet of paper to hold it in place, the said lever being detachably connected to the pivot on which it swings.
Figure l is a plan view of the circula'rcutter contrivance. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the cutting bed or table, to one side of which is attached a standard, B, on the upper end of which is a vertical socket, 0, support- .ing a pivot, D, in the lower end of which the cutter-lever E is pivoted, to swing the round 'the table and hold it to the cutters.
cutters F around in a circle for cutting circular pieces of paper; and the lever is also connected to the pivot, so that it can swing up and down to lift the cutters OK the bed when required. The cutters are mounted in stocks G, which are adjustable along-the lever for setting, according to the required width of the strips. Besides the cutters, the lever carries a gage-roller, H, to press the paper on The lever is detachably connected to the pivot D, so as to be readily taken off.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent The lever E, swiveled at one end to curved bar B, and provided with cutters F F, in combination with table A, having a screw whose end protrudes thereabove, to enable the paper to be cut in whole circles of varying size, as described.
JAMES HARDING BROWN.
