rllhis invention relates to adjusting means for garments, such for example as caps, and more particularly to an adjusting means comprising interlocking members one of which is `formed of a plurality of pivoted sections 5cfoldable upon each other to vary the over-all length of the member and each of which has a slot registrable with those in the adjacent sections when the latter are folded upon each other; the other member comprising an arm `having at its end a tongue so formed that in locked position of the members it entends transversely of the slot or superposed slots of one or more sections of the first-named mei be' and is engaged thereby to prevent acci- "dental displacement, the sections of the first "provided, one of which may be increased or decreased in length as desired so that overlap of the interlocking parts and consequent unsightly appearance will beprevented. j

Another object of my invention is to pro- Vvide an adjustment for caps comprising in* terlocking members, oneof which is articulated and comprises sections foldable upon each other, the other member being engagejable with one of said sections or a plurality of them when folded together.

A, further object of my invention is to pro vide an adjustable means for varying the head sizes of caps, comprising interlocking members one of which is composed of a plurality of foldable sections each marked according to a head size, the markings being so affixed that as each section is folded the marking on the end section will indicate the size ,to which adjustment is made, the markings of the folded sections being hidden.

Referring more particularly to the drawing:`

A cap 10 is provided with straps 11 and 1Q to thefree ends of which members 13 and 1li 70 are attached by eyelets 15, or in any other suitable manner such as, for example, by clinched prongs, rivets or stitching.

The member 13 is composed of a plurality compris of sections 16 which are preferably connected 75 i by eyelets 17 so that they may be swung or folded one behind the other thereby to vary the over-all length of the member. Fach of the sections 16 is formed with a slot- 18, preferably of rectangular shape and eitending transversely of the section, the respective slots being so positioned that when one or more of the sections are in overlapped posi tion, having been folded, the slots will accurately register for a purpose which will be l hereinafter described.

Except for the innermost section which is fastened to strap 11 the sections 16 are all of similar size and shape, and are similarly formed with slots 1S and holes at their ends 9o 18are formed as in the previously described form of my invention.

Member 14 is provided for interlocking with the member 13 and it comprises an arm 2O terminating in a tongue 21 bent inwardly and twisted so that when the members are interlocked the tongue kwill be positioned at right angles to the length of slots 18 in member 13. It is obvious that the positioningof the slots and-cooperating tongue can be rea versed without Vaffecting my invention, the

specific form shown being merely for the purpose of illustration. g

As is shown inFigure 2 each of the sect-ions 16 is marked to correspond to a head size and the sections are so assembled that when the outermost is folded it will lie behind the next adjacent section andits marking; consequently, will be hidden from view. Thns, the outi V` jermost visible marking will indicate the head size to which adjustment is made.

VThe respective sections being foldable upon each other provide a means for varying the over-all length of member 13 so that it will not overlap'member 14 when the two are interlocked. A bulky, unsightly appearance is thus prevented.y When the sections are so folded the slots therein will register and the bent end ofarm 20 being of greater length 3K0 than the combined` thickness of the folded Y sections the tongue 21 may be passed through the superposed slots and engaged to hold all of the previously folded sect-ions in position. From the foregoing it will be apparent that s 'I have provided a cheap, easily assembled and convenient means for adjusting caps to various head sizes, such adjustment being variable asdesired but not capable of accidental l l displacement, and such means further prol viding an extensible member which in folded position occupies little space and without overlapping its complementary interlocking member. the sections being so assembled that when one is folded behind another the number which it bears will be hidden, each section having a slot adapted to register with the slot of its adjacent section when the sections are folded, and a second member separably connected with the articulated member formed from the similar sections, said second member being fastened to the other side of the cap and engageablc at its free end with the slot presented by the outermost section of the adjusted irst-named member and the slots of any other section which may be folded behind it.

3. Adjusting means for varying the head size of caps comprising a member having a part for attachment to a cap and a plurality ofsimilarly formed sections formed with holes at their ends and intermediate transverse slots, the adjacent ends of said sections being in overlapping relation and pivotally connected so that they may be folded one upon the other to vary the over-all length of said member, a second member attached to the cap and having an inwardly bent arm terminating in a tongue at an angle to the length of the slots in the sections of said first named member and adapted to interlock with the slot presented by the outermost section and the slots of any other sections which may be folded behind it.

4. Adjusting means for varying the head size of caps comprising a member having a part for attachment to a cap and a plurality of similarly formed sections formed with holes at their ends and intermediate transverse slots, the adjacent ends of said sections being in overlapping relation and pivotally connected so that they may be folded one upon the other to vary the over-all length of said member, a second member attached to the cap and adapted to engage with any or all of the foldable element-s for adjusting the cap to any desired size.

5. Adjusting means for garments comprising a plurality of similarly formed sections pivotally connected to each other and attached at one end to a garment, the sections each being formed with a slot which, when the sections are folded one upon another, registers with the slot in each adjacent section, and a member provided with slot engaging means adapted to interlock with the registering slots of the sections when folded to the desired length.
