Description

CRUSHING MACHFENE Filed July 23, 1927 \u 7 h 3% ii i P b w k a N m N PINVENTOR. J" A BY M VQJ W ATTORNEY.
Patented Dec. 3, 1929 LLOYD P. WALKER, OF BELMONT, MASSACHUSETTS GRUSHING MACHINE Application filed Ju1y 23,
This invention relates to a crushing machine.
ln general the object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved crushing machine of the type in which the crushing operation is performed by a gyratory crushing member or head positioned within and surrounded by a crushing frame and in which provision is made for imparting the crushing motion to the head in a novel and superior manner which enables the crushing machine to be operated with much higher efficiency than other comparable standard crushing machines now upon the market.
With this object in view and such others as may hereinafter appear, the invention consists in the crushing machine and in the structures, arrangements and combinations of parts hereinafter described and particularly defined in the claims at the end of this specilication.
in the drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the improved crushing machine, and is taken upon a line 1-l of Fig. 2 and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
At the present time all of the crushing machines upon the market possess definite limitations in their crushing efficiency by reason of the fact that their maximum permissible operating speed is limited by the durability of the bearing between the single driving eccentric and the crushing head. In accordance with an invention forming the subject matter of a co-pending application 55. N. 209,985 filed by me on even date here with, I have been able to materially increase the crushing efficiency of a crushing machine over the efficiency of comparable standard crushin machines by the provision of a plurality or eccentrics whose number and size are correlated to obtain an increased crushing speed and consequently an increased efficiency in performing the crushing operation.
The present invention contemplates the provision of a novel and improved construction of crushing machine of the type employing gyratory crushing head and in which provision is made for imparting the crushing 1927. Serial N0. 207,986
motion by a plurality of eccentrics designed to secure the increased efficiency above re ferred to.
Referring to the drawing, the crushing machine illustrated thcrein is provided with a hopper 10 mounted upon the upper end of the frame 12 having operatively supported therein a stationary concave or crushing member 1 1-. The gyratory crushing head or member 16 is operatively supported upon a flange portion 18 of a hub 20 formed upon and supported by arms 22 extended inwardly from the lower portion of the frame 12. In order to impart a gyratory crushing motion to the crushing head 16, the latter is provided with 5 a plurality of eccentric driving members having bearings therein, and as herein shown four eccentric sleeves 24 are arranged within the crushing head 16 each having an inner bearing upon a shaft 26 supported at its lower end in the hub 20 and at its upper end in a hub 28 carried by arms 29 extended inwardly from the hopper 16 as illustrated. Each eccentric sleeve is provided on its lower end with a spur gear 32, and the eccentric sleeves are arranged symmetrically about the axis of the crushes thereby permitting all of the spur gears 32 to mesh with the central driving pinion 34 secured upon the end of a shaft 36 extending through the hub 20 and having a so lower bearing 38 in a part of the hub as shown.
The spur gear 32 is driven from a suitable source of power through a driving pulley 40 secured on the end of a shaft a2 having an outer bearing id and inner bearings 4C6 in the frame 12 and through cooperating bevel gears 47, l8 on the shaft 4-2 and the shaftlfih.
From the description thus far it will be observed that in accordance with the present invention, a gyratory crushing machine of co the type employing a movable inner crushing head is provided and which is driven by a plurality of eccentric driving members whose number and size are correlated to permit the machine to be operated with high efiiciency. 5 The improved crushing machine is relatively simple in construction and may be economically manufactured.
While in the illustrated machine eccentric sleeves have been shown as the preferred form of eccentric driving member for the particular type of crushing machine shown, it is to be understood that other forms of eccentric driving members may be used if found advantageous, such for example as eccentric shafts.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described. it will be understood that the invention may be embodied in otherforms within the scope of the following claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A crushing machine having, in combination, an outer crushing member, an inner crushing member, and means for imparting an eccentric crushing motion to the inner crushing member, including a plurality of eccentric driving members having bearings within said inner crushing member.
2. A crushing machine having, in combination, an outer crushing member, an inner crushing member, and means for imparting an eccentric crushing motion to the inner crushing member, including a plurality of eccentric driving members having bearings within said inner crushing member and having portions projecting therefrom, and means cooperating with the projecting portions for driving the eccentric driving members in unison. V i
3. A crushing machine having, in combination, a frame, an outer crushing member supported thereby, amovable crushing head within said frame, 'asupporting member carried by the frame for operatively supporting the movable crushing head, and means for imparting an eccentric crushing motion to the head Including a plurality of eccentrio driving members having bearings within said head. V
4. A crushing machine having, in combinatlon, a'frame, an outer crushing member supportedthereby, a movable crushing head within said frame, a supporting member car rled by the frame for operatively support- 7 ing the movable crushing head, and means for imparting an eccentric crushing motion to the head, includlngv a plurality of eccentric driving members having bearings within said head and each provided with a gear thereon, and a single driving gear cooperating with said gears for driving the eccentric drlving members in unison.
In testimony whereof I .have signed my 7 name to this specification.
