M. S. BENTLEY STROP HOLDER Filed June 11 1928 INVENTOR.
BY 5. BE NTLEY ATTORNEYS.
ITI.
Patented Nov, 12, 1929 I MARTIN s. BENTLEY, on sn'HELnNA; CALIFORNIA s'rnor nornnn Application filed June 11,
This invention relates to improvements in strop holders. The principal object of this invention is to provide a strop holder wherein the strop is prevented from rotating in one direction only. 7
A further object is to produce a device of the character which may be attached to any ordinary strop now upon the market without altering the construction of the same A further object is toproduce a device which is economical to manufacture one which is strong and at the same time neat in appearance.
A still further object is to produce a holder which may be attached to either the wall or underside of a chair, as for instance, a barbers chair. 7 Other objects and advantages will be ap parent during the course of the'following description. v y Y In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts 2 throughout the same,
Figure 1 is'a top plan view of my device as the same would appear when attached to the wall and having a portion of the strop secured thereto, o. o
80 Figure 2 is a side elevation of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is across section taken on the line 33 of Figure 1, and v Figure 4 is a top plan view of the locking washer. Q V 1 V At the present time a strop is'usually provided with a swivel at one end thereof which swivelpermit's the strop to accommodate it- 1 self to the angle to which therazor being 7 stropped, is held. It oftenioccursthat the razor will slip off the strop and upon the. return movement of the hand nto bring the razor back to the strop, the razor will en gage the strop in such a manner as to cause it to turn and consequentlybecut upon the next stroke. Many a strop has been ruined in this manner.
Applicant has therefore provided a de vice which will prevent such occurrences,
In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a 1928, Serial No. 284,614. A
8. A similar bracketisshoWn at9, which is provided with arms 11 and 12. A pivot pin v is shown 'at 13 which pivot pin passes through the arms 7, 11, 12 and 8, thereby permitting the bracket 9 to rotate'with respect to the bracket 6. The bracket 9 has an opening therethrough which permits a studl l to extend through the bracket as illustrated in Figure 1. This stud is provided with a head 16 which has a squaredundersurface adapted G5 to engage a squared opening in a washer 17 This washer is provided with notchesas shown at 18 and 19 which notches are adapt ed to be alternatively engaged by a pivot latch 21, pivoted as at 22 to the bracket 9 and hav; '70 ring its free end in engagement with the wash er by a spring23. The stud 14 is held in con- 7 tact with then-washer 16 through the mediumof a spring 24, which spring is held upon V the stud by a pivot pin 26. This pivot pin '7 also formsa means for securing astro h ldfl ing clamp 27.
The strop is shown at 28 and secured in the V clamp 27 as by'a screw 29: Assuming that a strop hasbeen secured to my device and that the'devic'e has been attached to a support, the" user grasps the end of the strop in the left hand and strops the razorin the usual man- 1 ner. It will be noted however, that the tend-.-
ency of the strop'to rotate in a clockwise direction is prevented by the latch 21. If the operator wishes to turn. the strop p over so' as to use the canvas side, he turns the I strop in a counterclockwise direction and then'proceeds to apply the razor thereto; 910 "Shouldthe operatorbe left handedtthere v but a moments work toreverse the position i of the washer 16 which of course will prevent I the strop from rotating in a counter clockwise direction and will therefore accommo; date a left handed person V It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to terial, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim. l 7
Having thus described my invention, I claim In a device of the character described, a
1 pair of brackets pivotedone to the other, a
stud extending throngh one of said brackets,
said stud having :a squared portion formed thereon, a Washerpositioned on said stud and engaging the squared portion thereof, said washer having notches formed in the periphery thereof, a latch pivotally secured to said bracket and adapted to engage said Washer for the purpose of preventing rotation ofsaid 'Washer in one direction only, a strop securin-g clamp secured to said stud anda spring interposed between said bracket and said strep securing clamp.
. p In testimony whereo'f'I aifix my signature.
, MARTIN .s. BENTLEY.
