$- SPElRS SAFETY RAZOR I Filed Nov. 5. 1926 Fig 6 n n "M- q l H- 4 Q, 5/ M INVENTOR flluall 67 ATTOR N EY Patented Nov. :12, 1929 UNITE STATES STUART SPEIRS, on NEW YORK, any.
SAFETY RAZOR Application filed November 5, 1926. Serial No. 143,358.
This invention relates to a safety razor. The object of the invention is the production of a safety razor that is specially adapted to shave the limbs and arm-pits of 5 the user, and is particularly suitable, forouse by women. The razor may however be used for shaving the face of the user in the ordinary way. The second object of the invention is the production of a safety razorwhich can be used with either the right or left hand. The third object of the invention is the production of a safety razor, having a frame consisting of one pieceof flexible material and which has incorporated therewith flexible arms, which latter when subjected to pressure enables a razor blade to be attached or detached from the safety razor.
The organization of the invention comprises a flexible metallic band which has in corporated therewith a curved guard comb and a pair of locking lugs to maintain a razor blade detachably clamped to said guard comb. e T
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 represents a front elevation of an exemplification of the safety razor; Fig. 2 shows a top plan view of Fig. 2 on the y a front view of fication; Fig. 5
6 indicates a front view of a further modification of the safety razor and Fig. 7 is a top plan view of Fig. 6.
Referring to Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive the safety razor is indicated to comprise a frame consisting of the bowed arms 20, withoverlapping portions 21 at one end, which latter can be connected by spot welding or by means of rivets. At the other ends of the bowed arms portions 22.
Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a section of line 3, 3; Fig. 4 represents the safety razor with a modiare formed the front curved end From the latter extend the return bend flanges 23, which have formed therewith the inwardly extending locking lugs 24. The
, latter are connected by the guard comb 25,
5 curved along its longitudinal axis and having in this instance the serrated opposite edges forming the guard fingers 26. Outwardly clamping projections 27 are formed with the guard comb 25. A razor blade 32 5 in this instance bears against the outer face is atop view of Fig. 4; Fig.
of the guard comb ably locked to the locking lugs 24. Openings 33 are formed in the blade that are detachably engaged by the clamping projections 27. The razor blade 32 can be easily detached from or connected to the guard comb 25, and the locking lugs 24 by springing the bowed arms 20, and said guard com i 25, with its ends detach-- In the modification indicated in Figs. 4 a
and 5, the bowed arms are again indicated at 20 having the front curved end portions 22, and the outwardly extending locking lugs 36. The guard comb 38 is "curved along its longitudinal axis, and is provided with the guard fingers 39, andconnects the locking lugs 36. Clamping projections 40 extend in wardly from the guard comb 38, and a razor blade 41 bears against the inner concaved face of the guard comb 38 with its ends locked to the locking lugs 36. Openings 42 are the projections be detached or ing the'bowed arms 20 and the'guard comb38.
Referring to Figs. 6 and 7 the safety razor in this modification is shown to. comprise the guard comb 44 having the guard fingers 45, and is curved along its longitudinal axis.
Locking lugs .46 and 47 are formed at the ends of the guard comb and locking projections 48 extend from its outer face. A return bend flange 49 is formed with the locking lug 47 and a handle bar 50extends from the flange 49. A razor blade 51 bears on the outer face of the guard ably locked to the locking lugs 46 and 47. The razor blade 51 can be detached or locked in position by springing the guard comb 44.
The razor blade has projections 52 that engage the projection 48.
en the razor blade is clampedin position in any of the forms of the invention, it will automatically be curved along its longitudinal axis in conformity with its guard comb.
It will be noted that while the razorblade is indicated as double edged, a razor blade with one cutting edge can be used. I
It is to be also noted that the locking'lugs comb 44 with its ends detachi formed in the razor blade adapted to engage 40. The razor blade 41 can locked in position by spring- 24, 36, 46 and 47 cover the corners of the razor blade to avoid injury when using the razor.
Various modifications can be made in the invention and the present exempliflcation is to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.
Having described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim is:
1. In a safety razor the combination of a pair of flexible arms, curved end portions formed at the outer ends of the flexible arms, return bend flanges extending from said curved end portions, locking lugs formed with said return bend flan-gesand a guard comb connecting said locking lugs, said comb curved along its longitudinal axis and having serrated opposite edges forming guard fingers, said locking lugs adapted to detachably connect a razor blade to said guard comb and hold said blade in a flexed and curved condition along its longitudinal axis.
2. In a safety razor the conrbinationot a pair of flexible bowed arms, curved endportions formed at the outer ends of the flexible arms, return bend, flanges extending from said curved end portions, locking lugs formed with said return bend flanges, a guard comb conneGting said locking lugs, said comb curved along its longitudinal axis and having a serrated edge forming guard fingers, said guard comb having clamping projections "formed therewith, said locking lugs adapted to detachably connect a razor blade to said guard comb and hold said blade in a flexed and curved condition along its longitudinal axis, said clamping projections extending from said guard comb engaging openings in the razor blade. 7 V
In testimony-whereof I affix my signature.
STUART srnms.
