Y., A CORPORATION OF DELAVVAIREv TRUMP INDICATOR Application filed January 18, 1927. Serial No. 161,717.
vide a device of the character :mentionedl which, while highly satisfactory for the' purposes intended, may be manufactured and sold prolitably at a low retail price.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the drawing accompanying and forming a part of this specification.
In said drawing, Fig. 1 shows one of the combined pencils and indicators as it appears when viewed from an angle at which the diamond and club sections of the construction are visible.
Fig. 2 is like Fig. 1 except that it shows the heart and spade sections of the construction.
Fig. 3 is a group of details showing separately the construction of various pieces which are shown in completely assembled relation in Figs. 1 and 2.
The representative embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises a cylindrical pencil body 10 and contains the usual marking material 11. The periphery or external surface of the body of the pencil is divided into four longitudinal red and black panels 12, 13, 14 and 15 of equal width and arranged so that the colors alternate. The body of the pencil at the end opposite'the writing end is reduced slightly in diameter, as shown at 16, to form a seat for a shell or eraser tip 17 of any suitable material. The eraser tip 17 is formed to provide four flat faces 18, 19, 2O and 21 which are substantially equal in extent. The material of the tip or shell 17 is cut away in each of the four faces so as to form openings each having the outline of one of the four card pips designating .f the four suits in a pack of playing cards.
alignment with one of the cut-away portions offthe tip 17 with an appropriately colored panel or face on the block exposed through each of the suit indicia openings. The block 22 may be held in position by a block 25 of rubber or.. other suitable erasing material in such a way as to be firmly held in the eraser tip. l
It is apparent that the preferred construction which has been described affords a combined pencil and indicator which may be used for recording scores of card games and which may be laid on any suitable surface with the proper suit indicia vuppermost to indicate the current trump, and that the construct-ion is one which may be produced at a relatively lower cost than similar articles previously on the market.
While the embodiment shown and described is a highly satisfactory one in the respects stated, it is apparent that the invention is capable of other embodiments such as come within the scope of the claims which follow.
What is claimed is:
1. An article of the character described comprising in combination a body having longitudinal panels colored to correspond to` the colors of the suits in a pack of playing cards, a shell secured to one end of the body and having cut away portions in alignmentwith the correspondingly colored panels and shaped to represent clubs, diamonds, spades and hearts, and panels exposed through such cut away portions colored to correspond to the suits represented by the respective cut away portions.
Y 2. An article of the character described comprising a cylindrical body having on its surface four longitudinal panels colored alternately red and black, a shell attached to one end of the body comprising four flat sides each cut away in alignment with one of the appropriately Icolored' panels on the cylindri' cal body to represent one of the suits in a pack of playing cards, and a rectangular block within the shell having alternate red and black faces in alignment with the correspondingly colored panels on the cylindrical body and eXposed by the cut away portions in the shell.
3. An article of the character described comprising a rod-like member, a metal shell attached to one end of the member having four flat sidesA each cutaway to form an opening representing one of the four suits in a pack of playing cards, a rectangular block inserted within the shell and having portions adjacent said openingsvcoloredito correspond with the suit indicating openings, and means for holding said block in position in theshell.
4. An article of the character described comprising a rod-likememberlhaving onf'its, surface four longitudinal panels colored alternately red andblack, a shell fattachedtb one end of the member havingffouratrfsides each lcut away in alignment With-an appropriately colored panel onfthe member to represent one of the-'four suits in apackio'f playing cards, a rectangular block withini the' shell having alternate redand black faces in alignment with the correspondingly colored panels on the rod-like member, and asecond'zblock: of material retaining'the lirstlblo'ck intheshell and projecting from `said shell.
In testimony vwhereof V'I hereto` aflixy my sig.
