rIhe reference numeral indicates generally a strip of cloth material, preferably felt, which is to be treated by having pressed into the texture thereof, a paste mixed with emery, French mould, that is earth, yor soil, crude oil or grease, and a small portion of loose varnish. All these ingredients are well mixed and made into a paste, which when properly applied to the strip 10 substantiates a leather strap. The strip 10 is preferably supported near its ends, indicated in Fig. 1 by the dot-dash lines 11, and in Fig. 3 by the arrows 12. The paste to be applied to 4 0 the strip 10 may be placed in containers 13 and 13 formed Ywith end projections 14 adapted to support rollers 15, these projections 14 continuing in handles 16 pivoted as at 17 so that when the ends of the handles are forced together the rollers are forced against the strip 14. y

Each of the containers are formed with doors 18, locked in closed position by catches 19, and adapted to hold air pressure applied in the container by pipes 20 which are connected to suitable supply lmeans not shown on the drawing. The containers are formed with spouts 21 directed to the strip 10. These spouts 21may be broader than the strip, and are therefore formed with end adjustments consisting of members 22 rigidly attached to the sides of the spouts andv formedV with dove-tailed portions 23 engaged with dove-tailed grooves ,2li in other members 25 having dove-tailed portions 26 engagedby other, members 27. lThe members 25 are' 'formed with projections 28 engaging in slots 2 9 in members 22, and the members2( are formed with projections 30 engaging in ,slots 31 in members 25, Vso that the members cannotdisengage from each other. The members 27 rotatably engage the ends of adjusting screws 32 threadedly engaged in the sides of the spout 21. `Byfthe proper manipulation of screws 32 the width of the spout may be adjusted.

In operation only one container is used at a time, that is, either container 13 0r 13.

As illustrated the container 13 is to be used,

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Unitedv States Letters Patent is:

1. A device of the class described, comprising containersadapted to hold a paste and air pressure, projections therefrom, rollers mounted in the projections and adapted to en,-l

3. A deviceof the class described, comprising a'container for assuming a position above a strap to be coated, a second container for assuming a'position below the strap, projections from the containersV directed towards each other, rollers mounted on the projections, connected handles connected with the projections, andspouts projecting from thev containers towards each other for engaging with opposite sides of the said strap, 'said spout'sv being arranged for adjustments to change their widths for accommof signatures.
