DRESS PROTEOTOR Filed ltay 19. 1928 mentoc Patentecl Oct. 29, 1929 UNIT D STATES .TIILENA NUT'I', O F TOZ IJED O L OI I I l j DRESS PROTEC'I'OR,
My invention has, for its object to provide a dress protector that may be readily secured 4 7 l "jg i f'the' u tI l lll t )le of'i the`garinentl It is also llli t f olfl ll ,alow er edge that exteilds across (the bch fthe dress about at the points Of theslio,rilder lolaide's and to .points below the light weight material and without lining of 2 V 4 on the inside of the back of the dress and so as to cover the shoulder lolades of the wearer. 5 As, is well known, dresses of the present mode are erreeedingly thin and formed of very *any kind. My invention provides a sheet material so formed that'it may be readily rernovably secured in position so as to prevent soiling of the dress and also so as to prevent ripping of the dress when the weaurer is eX- ercising or performing any operations with the arms and shoulders, such as driving an automobile, playing tennis, golf, etc. The invention also provides a means whereby the lingerie straps may be maintained in position on the shoulderS of the wearer and thus, in the ordinary movements Of the body of the wearer, the straps Will be held in position without slipping. Consequently, in exercising, the invention is advantageous for preventing displacement of. the lingerie straps as well as in rotecting the faloric of the dress from becoming soiled from wit-hin. The invention thus provides a means for greatly cxtending the length of timein which the dress may be worm without becoming soiledo or torn.
The invention may be embodied in dress protectors that vary in their details Of outline and means of application and securement to ladies garments. To illustrate a practical application of the invention, I have r selected a protector embodying my invention,
as an example of such protectors, and Shall describe it hereinafter. l`he protector selected as an example is shown in the accompanying drawing.
The figure Of the drawing illustrates a dress turned inside out and the protector shown partially secured in position.
The protector 1 is formed of a light weight 4 sheet material cut to conform substantially to the back of the dress 2 at a point where the dress covers the shoulder blades. The protector is cut so as to form the curved edge 8 that conforms to the shape of the base of the neck of the dress, such as at the base of a collar, and the curved edges .L that conform to the arm `at theishoi ilder and which l ordinarrly' follows the line o f the rear edge arrin `pits. "This forni projecting portions 6 andj' betweentl1eedges4 .and tliatepreferloly 'extend 'to the sean i s 8 laird ,9' 'i espectively,
to which the p rojecting 'portions G and 7 a`re lo preferably Secured by taching by means of a few stitches 10 at the corners formed between the straight edges 5 and 11 and the odges 11 and 4:.
The corners formed between the edges" 12 2 l and the edges 3 and i are also tacked by means of a few stitches18 and so that theedges 12 r will extend along'the top of the shoulders. These corners are' also preferaloly Secured at seams or points of juncture between portions of the garment. Thus theprotector may be reaclily Secured in position and also may be readily removed and replaced, if desired,by another protector, and moreoVer, the pro tector is so formed that it may be connectedil r to the substantial parts of the garment which is Lsually formed of exceedingly light mate ria waehable material and may be removed and cleansed and replaced.
Short straps 15 located in p`roximity to the edges 12 may be secured by the tacking as by threads 16 to the garment and Snap fasteners havingparts 17 -and 18 are secured to the ends of the straps 15 and the protector 1. Theparts 18 that are Secured to the protector 1 are located in proximityto the edges 12. Preferablythe straps are Secured near the shoulder points or Corners between the cclges 1 and 12 of the protector,while the parts '18 of the snap fasteners are located substantially midway between the corners formed by the 4 edges 8 and 12 of the protector 1. g c
The lingerie straps may thus be gathered g b v insertion of the straps l u nderneaththe lingerie, Straps anclthe fa'steners havingthe parts 17 and 18 'may be snapped and thus ser cured together, which will maintain the lin- The protector may be formed Of a i gerie straps inposition on the shoulder of the V 7 vvearer notvvithstanding the body movements of the wvearer.
I claim:
In a dress rotector, a fabrio out to con- 7 form to the upper portion of the back of the dress that covers the shoulder blades the protector havingedges that conform to the neck opening at the back, and edges that eX- tend to thetops Of the shoulders, and edges that extend from theshoulders to points beneath the arnepits,` and edges that extend along substantially vertical lines below the armpits, and an edge that interconnects the said vertical edges the protector secured to the said dress portion at the corners formed by the said edges of the protector, the protector located on the inside of the dress and straps having Snap :Easteners at their ends and Connected to the protector at their reinziiiling ends at points intermediate the neolr and the. tops of the shoulders vvherebythe lingerie straps Of the Wearer may be Secured in position;
ln Witness vvhereof I have hereunto signed Iny name to th s specificatlon.
