Description
'UNITED STATES JOSEPH MORSGHHAUSER, OF HYDE PARK, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTLE-STQPPERS.
PATENT OFFICE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,133, dated February 8, 1876; applicationiiled September 23, 1875. Y
To all whom 'it may concern-.-
Be it known thatl, J o sEPH MoRsoHHAUsER, of Hyde Park, Dutchess county, New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consistsin an operating yoke, or stirrup pivoted to the bottle, and to a stop-v per-carrying yoke, and arranged to close over and around the latter, as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a bottle closed by my device. Fig. 2 represents the same opened.
In constructing my device I provide a yoke, A, ot' suitable/size to t over the neck of the bottle, and provide the same on the inside with a stopper of any suitable construction. I next provide a second yoke, B, of such size as to t snugly over the yoke A, pivot the ends of the twotogether, and pivot the arms ot' yoke B a short distance from their ends to opposite sides of a band, C, adapted to surroundthe neck of the bottle.
When the device is in place and the bottle open the parts stand in the positions represented in Fig. 2, with the two yokesA thrown backen opposite sideslof the bottle.
In order to close the bottle it is only necessary to turn'the yoke A up in position to bring the stopper over the mouth, and then turn the yoke B upward over and around the other,
- as'shown in Fig. 1.
within the bottle.
By arranging the operating yoke to close over the mouth of the bottle and over the cork-carrying stirrnp, as shown, I give the vdevice additional strength and'security, permit the use of a long and powerful operatingyoke without rendering the device clumsy or objectionable in appearance, render the manipulation easy and convenient, and render `the device free from danger of unlocking or Ybeing unlocked by accident.
tle from being tainted, and at the same time e produce a perfectly tight joint I prefer to make the stopper of an inside cork to enter the mouth, and an outside rubber washer to tit upon the mouth, as shown.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The combination of the yoke A, provided with'the stopper, and the yokefB, pivoted to l Witnesses: V`
