Description
Oct. 8, 1929. c. A. GIROUX 1,731,164
CHANGEABLE 5 IGN Filed Feb. 4, 1928 Inventor Patented Dot. 8, 1929 or STATES CHARLES A. GIROUX, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA GHANGEABLE SIGN Application filed February 4, 1928.
The present invention relates to improve ments in changeable exhibitors and has for its primary object to provide a sign provided with a plurality of selectively adjustable elements arranged to permit the formation of various exhibiting expressions.
A further object of the invention is the pro vision of a changeable exhibitor constructed so that the adjustable elements will be automatically secured in proper exhibiting position.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of an exhibitor embodying inclividually adjustable members formed so as to selectively expose any one of three distinctly colored signs.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the description progresses.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like reference characters are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of an assembled sign constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary transverse section illustrating the adjustment of the exhibiting elements, and
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section through one of the movable members.
Referring to the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 10 generally designates the frame of the sign which is in the form of a rectangular marginal frame composed of frame bars 11 having attached to the rear a backing plate 12.
Rigidly fixed in parallel positions in the forward portion of the frame in-a co-extensive plane are a plurality or rods 13, preferably disposed in horizontal positions. The rods 13 are of non-circular, preferably hexagonal form in crosssection, as shown to advantage in Figure 2.
Rotatably mounted on the rods 13, in adjacent positions, are exhibiting blocks 14 formed in cross section in the shape of an equilateral triangle so as to provide three Serial No. 251,972.
exhibiting faces or sides which may be selec tively exposed to a forwardly directed exhibiting position. Each block is formed with a through bore extending longitudinally to engage the supporting rods and at one end provided with an enlarged counter bore 15. Each face of the block is painted or coated with a distinguishing and contrasting color, the purpose of which will be later described. Extended transversely through each block, adjacent the extremity provided With the enlarged coun'ter bore, are a pair of relatively fine resilient rods 16 extending parallel and intercepting the counter bore so as to snugly engage at opposed positions the non-circular support rods 13. With this construction, the blocks may be frictionally rotated but will normally retain their adjusted position.
In use, the blocks are individually rotated, preferably by means of a tapered implement, to expose any one of its faces, certain of the blocks being adjusted to form a background color, while others are adjutsed to expose contrasting colors employed to form alphabetical or numerical expressions or design characters.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herein shown and described is to j be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes as to the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subj'oined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. A changeable exhibitor comprising a frame, a plurality of rods of non-circular cross section fixed in parallel spaced position in the frame, a plurality of exhibiting blocks rotatably mounted on the rods triangular in transverse cross section, and rods fixed transversely in the blocks adapted to contact with the non-circular rods to maintain the blocks in adjusted exhibiting position.
2. A changeable exhibitor comprising a frame, a plurality of parallel rods fixed in spaced position in the frame,.a plurality of exhibiting blocks rotatably mounted on each of said rods and adapted to be individually adjusted to expose any one of their faces and 19 resilient means rigid with each of said blocks and engageable with their respective rod to maintain each block in its adjusted exhibiting position.
3. A changeable exhibitor comprising a frame, a plurality of parallel rods fixed in spaced position in the frame, a plurality of blocks having a number of exhibiting faces and mounted on each of said rods, each exhibiting face of the blocks being of a different color whereby through adjustment of certain of said blocks With respect to the remaining bloclrs a contrasting design Will be had, and portions of resilient metal carried by said blocks and engageable With their respective rod to maintain each block in its adjusted position.
In witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand.
CHARLES A, GIROUX.
