The type of lamps to which this invention applies particularly is the usual automobile lamp. ln such lamps there are found such elements as a body within which a rel'lector is located and which is closed by a glass heid in place by a closure rim on the body, with :in electric lamp bulb .located within the refiector.

ed with a paeling ring 13 between it and the ehre of the reflector 10. The bulb 11 is mounted in the refiector within a connector llwhich .is of fixed teens type in that no adjustment is providecl to move the bulb in or cut to adusted positions as to tocal position ot its fiiamen't with relation to the reflector.
The rim 9 is provided with a rear edge which is inturned to form an annnlar hook 15. The forward edge of the body is annularly shoulder-ed and is inturned to form an engaging edge for fingers 16 which extend from the l ranches 17 ot a 'orked member 18. This forked member 18 is the closure retainer and operates as suchby reason of the hooked ends 19 which eng-age the annnlar hookcd edge of the closnre. The central portion 20 of the forlred member 18 is threaded to receive an adi nstinent screw 21 and thereby to act as a nut thereon. A head 22 on the screw 21 serves to bring about adjustment thereof. This causes forward or backward movement of the retainer 18 and consequently of the hooled ends 19 thereof ;tor tightening or releasing action upon the lamp closure.
At this point I will show how the fingers 16 operate. As will be seen, they are inclined and bear against the inner edge of the inturned edge of thebody. The reason for this hearing of the' fingers against the 'forward edge of the body is that the branches 17 of retainer normally tend to spring apart and consequently in addition to this the hooked `cnds 19 are held within the annular rim 15. N ow when the retainer 18 is moved forwardly, the fingers slide over the inturned annular edge of the body-and as the hooks 19 move torwardly away from the annular hook 15 the fingers in sliding over the body edge 23` will sinnltaneously draw the hOOlS 19 within the body beyond chance of engagement with the closure rim. ThUS the rim may be removed. A reverse operation of course takes place when the retainer is drawn back by the adjusting screw thus again looking the rim in position.
An additional feature of my invention eonsists in providing a fork 24 which is screw threaded to receive a` screw 25 which .is rotatable within the adjustment .screw 21 and e accessible from the rear by means ot a screw driver in the screw head slot. A pair of cotter pins 26 and 27 are provided in the screw, the former to prevent displacement of the ork 24 theref'om and the latter to hold the screw 25 from displacement from screw 21. The forward ends of the ork engage the rim of the reflector from its rear side and are located within the annnlar groovc at the back of the refiector opening. By adjnsting screw 25 the 'iOi'l is moved 'orwardiy thue pressing the reflector against the paching ring 13 to seal it against dust and moistnre.
In Fig. 2 a slight modification of Fig. l is shown. This merely consists in forming tor-k 18 so that the ende of the toi'h tend to spring toward .eaca other, with the tingers engaging the refiector edge to move the heeh ends of the fort: ontward when the ork is drawn backwardly by the screw 25. On :torward movement of the torh the hooh cnds release from the annular edge of the cio ne rim and the 'iingc'rs permitthem to spi toward each other and to withdraw T'lul'il the lamp body, thns releasing the closui'e rim,
Fig. 3 shows a slight modincation cit the idea dis-closed in Fig. 1, in that instead ot the fork 2& I have provided a thimbie or cupped sha ed projection at the rear' of the reflector, in which the screw 25 operates. Thiis the refiector may be as readily forced torwardly ordrawn bachwardly as though it were controlled by the torh as shown in Fig. l.
Fig. 45 is intended to show the idea that the forh, whether it applies to the refiector or closnre rim control may be 'equipped with more than two branches it desired. in this disclosure the torh is double in that it is provided with 'onr branches instead oi"` two as in the preceding disclosures.
Fig, 5 is a disclosnre ot' a :form of the invention resembling Fig. 2, but instead of the fingers 16 of the forh engaging the refiector asin Fig. 2 tor spreading the branches thereot' into hoohing engagement with the door rim, these ngers engage the rim 29 beyond a notch 30 which has been cut therein. in this form the branches 17 are allowed to spring inwardly as the fork is moved iorwardly, thns reieasing the closnre rim as in Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 shows the idea which incorporatcs the principle 'the devices I have described, but instead of the *forh branches 17' being ai'- ranged to spring outwardly oi: inwardly and under control o' a fi ger on each, I have arranged 'or the forh branches to slide straight torwardly and to have a hooh on each eX- tending ontwardly and engaging the annularly hoohed edge 15' of the closnre rim. Thns in the movement of the hoolted ends of the fork branches forwardly the closnre rim is loosened but notreleased. The releasing is then accomplished by providing a hole 31 in the closure rim opposite the position occupied by the hooked end of the forked branch so that the insertion of a mere nail or similar article through this hole will engage the hook of the foi'l branch and push it within the body free of the annnlar hooked edge of the closnre :rim so that the rim can be withdrawn reely.
And finally, I have shown a form of the invention in Fig. 7, in which a fiat hooh 32 is soldered oi' otherwise attached to the closure rim with a fiat hook shaped en( 33 of the forh member in engagement therewith, a sloping wall 34 of the forh branch hearing against and sliding over the edge of the intnrned body rim. In this Construction the normal spring ot the forh branchcs is ontwardly, hence the hook 33 which engages the hooh 32 when the forh is drawn bachwardly, will be moved ont of contact with the hooh 32 when the toi-h is moved orwardly, thus releasing the closure for removal from the body.
aving thus described my invention what l claim is:
1. 1:; combined closure 'astcner and reflector seal for lamps compirsing a detachable closnre rim capable of tal movement attachment and detachment purposes, a glass closure in the rim, a lamp body to receive the rim, a refiector within the body and capable ot axial movement therein, means tor drawing the rim to secni'ed position relatively to the body, a second means tor moving the refiector away from the body toward the rim and into scaling engagement with the glass closnre, and concentrically arranged adjustment screws tor tunctioning said first and second means independently.
2. in a lamp closnre and refiector scaling device the combination of a lamp closnre rim, a body to receive said rim, a screw within the body, a 'torhed element attached to the rim detachably and to the body centrally bet veen its ends by means of the screw, a refiector in the body, a second screw within the first mentioned screw, a second forhed ele ment engaging the refiector to obtain movement thereot `yelatively to the body, by engagement of the ends of the torhed element with the refiector through adjnstment thereof by the second mentioned screw.
