Definitions
- My present invention relates to a process and a device for the manufacture of seatair cushions for sick-beds.
- air cushions In making air cushions it is usual to employ two rubber plates cut in a suitable shape and disposed above each other, which are connected on their edges in forming two longitudinal parallel seams.
- Such cushions have the disadvantage that they become untight at the seams after a short use requiring thus lengthy and troublesome repairs. Furthermore the invalid is unfavourably influenced through the pressure exerted by the hard edges of the seams.
- the above mentioned disadvantages are obviated, as the improved air cushion is made without any longitudinal seam and consists of a seamless circular tube.
- FIG. 1 is a plan view of an air cushion
- Fig. 2 is a cross section of Fig. l partly in longitudinal section.
- Fig. 3 is a plan view partly in section of the mandrel, for making the air cushion.
- Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the connection for the parts of the mandrel.
- the air cushion consists of a circular tube A made without any longitudinal seam.
- the joint both ends overlap each other and are fixed together in the well known manner.
- a short outer seam positioned in a radial plane to the circular cushions is formed, which is of no disadvantageous influence whatsoever as the seam is formed in a position which the invalid can avoid by placing the cushion in a suitable manner.
- the two overlapping ends of the 4 circular tube can moreover easily be tightened, all the more as, by pumping up the cushion, the inner tube end is pressed against the outer one, owing to the existing inner prr sure.
