Description
Sept. 24; 1929. ca. M. HALE 1,729,480
AL-BUM Filed Sept. 10. 1928 2 Shets-Sheet 1 Q Q 24F INVENTOR ATTORNEY 24, 1929- e. M. HALE 1,729,480
'- ALBUM Filed Sept. 10, 1928 2 mas-sneer 2 Patented Sept. 24, 1929 UNETED STATES GEORGE M. HALE, OF GLEN ROSE, TEXAS ALBUM Application filed September My present invention has reference to a photograph or picture album, my object be ing the provision of an album in which the ends of a web are fixed on reels and pictures are pasted end to end on such web and wherein the Web is rolled from one onto the other reel and further wherein the pictures are individually displayed in a flat condition.
A further object is the provision of an album for this purpose which shall be of small size so that the same can be conveniently carried in the pocket of the owner, which shall be neat and ornamental in appearance and which will fully and accurately display the photographs or pictures therein.
To the attainment of the fore oing, the improvement also resides in certain other novel features of construction, combination and operative association of parts, one satisfactory embodiment of which is disclosed by the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improvement.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a side elevation but showing the parts partly separated.
Figure 4; is a sectional view approximately on the line ll of Figure 3.
30 Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional view approximately on the line 55 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a detail view looking toward the end of one of the reels.
Figure 7 is a greatly enlarged sectional view approximately on the line '?7 of Figure 2.
Figure 8 is a detail perspective view of a core or bearing element for the reels.
As disclosed by the drawings, the improve- 7 ment contemplates the employment of a pocket case 1. The case has its ends rounder as at 2 and 8, the rounded ends being connected by straight plates 4 and 5. The plate 5 is arranged in a line with the face of the article and the plate 4 is suitably spaced from the said plate 5. The plate 5 has a central opening therethrough that is closed by a transparent plate 6. To the rear of the transparent plate there is a guide plate 7 formed on a frame hereinafter described. The rear 10, 1928. Serial No. 305,056.
face of the said guide plate has secured there on a substantially U-shaped clamp 8 for a mucilage containing bottle 9 and whereby the photographs may be adhesively secured to the webs now to be described.
The web is of suitable fabric and is indicated by the numeral 10. The ends of the web are wound around and secured to the central portions of reels 11 and 12, respectively. The web is designed to have adhesively secured on the outer face thereof photographs all of the same length and width, and it will be apparent that by turning the reel the web and photographs thereon will be wound from one reel onto the other.
Each reel has a central core 13, and in the showing of the drawings each reel is provided with a comparatively narrow core element 1& that contacts with one of the ends of the core proper. This core proper has its second end provided with a central reduced and rounded extension 15 which is formed with a central opening to receive therein a pivot pin 16 that is secured on what I will term the fixed end 17 of the case 1.
The core element It carries an outstanding threaded stud 18, and the said element is formed with a notch 19. The stud 18 and the hub extension 15 pass through suitable hearing openings in the sides 20 of a frame 21 which is shaped to correspond to the shape of the case 1. The flanges of the reel have pivotally secured thereto, as at 22, oppositely directed dogs 23 to engage in the notches 19, the said dogs being influenced to such engagement by springs 2% which are also carried by the said flan es of the reel.
t is here to be stated that the cores 13 are fixed in the respective reels 11 and 12 and the core sections 14 are loosely orrevolubly arranged in the said reels.
There is screwed on the studs 18 the socket ends 25 of headed winding lreys 26, the said keys passing through openings in the flanged cover plate 27 for the case 1. The cover plate, of course, corresponds in shape to that of the case 1. The rounded ends of the cover 27, at the center or the outer peripheries, are formed -"ith inwardly directed spring catch elements 28 each of which has an opening therethrough. These catch members are in have pasted thereon pictures which are arthe nature of spring fingers and have their ranged end to end.
outer ends curved or rounded, as at 29, whereby the same will ride over studs 30 carried by the rounded edges 2 and 3 of the case 1 that clamp or look the cover 27 on the said case.
By providing the latching engagement between the reels and the core elements 14; it will be noted that the web can be readily wound on one of the reels and off of the other and that the winding action is comparatively slow so that the full length of the pictures arranged over the guide plate or shelf 7 will be exposed through the sight opening in the improvement.
The features of my construction and the many advantages thereof will, it is thought, he understood and appreciated by those skilled in the art to which such invention relates Withoutfurther detailed description although I believe it necessary to state that I do not Wish to be restricted to the precise details heroin set forth and, therefore, hold myself entitled to make such changes therefrom as fairly fall within the scope of what I claim.
Having described the invention, I claim '1. In an album, a case having a sight opening, spaced reels in the case, a frame through which the trunnions for the reels are journalod and having a guide plate opposite the sight opening in the case, cores for the reels, including fixed elements engaging two of the trunnions and revoluble elements engaging two of the opposite pair of trunnions, winding keys on the last mentioned trunnions, spring influenced dogs carried by the reel for engaging with the revoluble core elements, a flanged removable side for the case fixed to the winding :eys, a web having its ends secured to and wound around the reels, and said Web designed to have pasted thereon photographs or other pictures.
2. In a photograph album, a case having rounded ends and a straight connection between said enns, the outer face of said straight portion having a. sight opening therethrough, trunnions in one side of the case at the rounded ends thereof, a frame correspondingin shape to the case designed to be received therein, reels between the ends of the frame, a fixed core for each reel having a hollow hub to receive the trunnions, a guide plate on the frame to the rear of the sight opening in the case, a clamp on the rear face of the plate, revoluble notched cores in the second ends of the reels, oppositely directed spring influenced dogs to engage in the notches of the said revoluble cores, threaded studs on the trunnion elements, removable flanged sides for the case through which the studs pass, spring clamping means between the sides and case, and winding keys sore-wed on the studs a web having its ends secured to and wound around the'reels and said web designed to In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
