As shown, the spray head is formed of separable upper and lower sections, and extended through the top of the upper section isa bushing 34 which is threaded at its lower end portion into a second bushing 35 which, in turn, is threaded into the partition 28. It should be observed that the centrally enlarged lportion of the vertical partition 29 is formed With abore 36, a portion of which is threaded and communicating with the tubular member 14, and extended through the bushings 34 and 35, the bore 36 and in threaded engagement with the latter, and into the member 14, is an elongated valve rod 37. As shown in Fig. 2, the lower portion of the bore 36fis enlarged to provide clearance between it and the valve 1 rod, and said bore communicates, by means of ports 38, with the inlet chamber 31. A rib 39 is formed around the lower portion of the bore 36 to provide a valve seat. Adapated to operate against said valve seat to control admission tosaid bore is a valve 40 mounted. fast on an mtermediate portion of said valve rod. For the purpose of turning the valve rod to vary the disposition of said valve with respectV to its seat, the exterior projecting portion of the valve rod carries an operating handle 41.
Whenthe valve rod is turned to seat the valve 40 the lower end portion of said rod is slightly above and spaced from the lower closed end portion of the tubular member 14. A cup shaped mixing valve 42 is revolubly mounted against the inner wall of the lower portion of said member V14 and is carried by said rod 37. The adjacent portion of the member 14 is provided with a pair of opposedr ports 43 and 44 registering with the reduced .openings 20 and 21 and the mixing valve is formed with a pair of elongated, adjacent ports 45 and 46 adapted to be brought into registration with one or both of said ports 43 and 44.
Extended through a side wall of the spray head 27, immediately below the horizontal partition 28, is a threaded bushing 47, into which is threaded a stem 48 carrying a knob or hand wheel 49 at its outer end portion. The bore 36 in the partition 29, immediately above the threaded portion, is enlarged, as in Fig. 2, and communicates with a transverse port 50 in said partition 29, affording coinmunication between the sprayA head1 inlet chamber 31 and the outlet chamber 30.
VThe inner end portion of the bushing 47 terminates adjacent an end of the port 50, and an inward or outward movement of the stem 48 varies'the relative restriction to the end of the port 50 to increase or decrease the Vflow of liquid from said port into the chamber 30.
The operation of the device is as follows: By turning the handle 41, the valve rod 37 is turned to disengage the valve 40 fromV its seat. At the same time, the mixing valve 42 .is turned therewith to allow either or both of the ports 45 and 46 to register with one or both of the ports 43 and 44, as desiredwhereby water is admitted into the mixing valve from either the hot or cold water pipes, or both. Thus the exact temperature of water desired may be obtained. f Water entering the mixing valve llows upwardly through the tubular member 14 and past the opened valve 40, through the ports 38 and into thespray Y head chamber 31. VAs previously described, the, stem 48 can at any time be t-urned to'regulate the amount of water lowinginto the spray head outlet chamber' from whenceV it is discharged through vthe sprayV vent for4 washing purposes in a thin semi-annular, or crescent shaped sheet. Tlns discharged sheet of water strikes the bowl in a curved line well removed from the drain opening and thereby serves to continuously and efficiently flush the bowl. n
It is, therefore, obvious that the improved individual washfountain is constructed to permit the discharge of tempered water in any desired quantity. The water may be tempered independently of vthe volume control and the volume may be varied without affecting the temperature of the water resulting from an adjustment of the mixing valve.
