Description
Sept. 17, 1929. J. w. SCHIEFFER STORE FRONT Filed June 1928 Patented Sept. 17, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT O FFICE" JOSEPH W. SCHIEFFER, OF NEW CANAA N, CONNECTICUT STORE FRONT Application filedJune 22, 1928. Serial No. 237,484; I I I device.
Another object of the invention is to provide a store front that is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combinati on and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated. in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim..
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a store front constructed in accordance with the present invention and showing the same applied to the front of a building.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a top plan view.
Figure 5 is a detail view showing a portion of the store front and illustrating the manner of covering the space between the store front and building and at the ends thereof.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the letter A indicates a building and B the cornice work thereof.
The store front which forms the subject matter of the present invention is designed to be detachably associated with the front of a building so that it can be moved from building to building as desired and includes a pair of spaced walls 1 and 2 which are provided with a curved top 3 so as to simulate the roof of a lunch Wagoner other vehicle and secured to the curved top is an elongated strip of material 4. shaped to follow the curvature of the top. The strip 4t is relatively wide and is secured to the curved top 3 so that its major portion extends outwardly in overhanging relation with respect to the walls 1 and 2 as best shown in Figures land 2 of the drawings. l I
The walls 1 and 2 have formed therein a plurality of registering openings 5 and these" openings are closed by windows 6 which'may be mounted for slidable movement in the usual manner as willbe apparent. A door opening. 7 is likewise formed in each of the walls 1 and 2 and this opening 7 is closed by a door 8 hingedly secured in any well kn manner. n
Any number of Window openings 5n1ay be provided and in the present construction I have illustrated seven openings in the walls, three of which are disposed upon onesido of the door opening,:while one is disposed on the other side thereof. Arranged adjacent the top of the walls 1 and 2 is a pair of window openings Qthat are relatively smaller I than the openings 5 andthese window openings .9 are likewise closedby windows which are preferablysecuredin fixed position.
Thestore front may be secured in contacting engagement withthe front of a building when no, projecting parts are included in said building, but when cornice such as indicated by the letter B extends outwardly from a,
building, the store front must necessarily be secured in spaced relation to the front of the building and in this event I provide spacing blocks 10 which are adapted to receive bolts 11 having nuts, and the bolts are passed through the walls 1 and 2 adjacent the respective corners thereof as best shown inFigure 1 of the drawings.
In order to cover. thespace between the store front and the front of the building,
there is provided cover plates 12 for the ends I of the frontand a similar plate 13 for the top. The plate 13 is curved to follow the curvature of the strip 1 and each of the plates 12 and 13 are provided with slots 15 for receiving bolt and nut connections 16 passing through the strip 4 and end strips 17 that extend inwardly from the outer edges of the inner wall 2 as best shown in Figure 3.
By this construction, it will be obvious that the cover plates 12 and 13 are adjustably associated with the store front for the purpose of covering spaces of various widths that may occur between the store front and the front of buildings when the store front is moved from building to building as will be apparent.
From the above description and disclosure of the drawings, it will be obvious that I have provided a detachable store front that may be secured to most any building such as a residence or the like for converting the same into a store, and the store front is shaped in a manner to simulate a lunch wagon or the like.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A store front of the character described comprising a pair of spaced walls secured together and being provided with window and door openings, windows and a door for closing said openings, said walls being provided with a curved top, a strip secured to the curved top and disposed in overhanging relation with respect to said walls, means for securing said walls to the front of a building, end strips secured to the walls, plates having slots therein, means carried by the strips and received in said slots for adjustably mounting the plates with respect to the strips and holding the plates in adjusted position for closing space between the store front and the front of the building.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOSEPH W. SCHIEFFER.
