In the installation described, the spout 7 is placed over the shank 3, and rests upon the gaskets 15 and 16, the lip 17 aligning with the center of the spout and preventing any continued rotation of the spout structure in any malicious attempt to remove it. The sleeve 11 is then screwed downwardly into the shank until the flange 12 presses upon the top of the projection 9, forcing the'lower portion of the projection, and of the spout, against the gasket 15, and the internal peripheral shoulder on the projection 9 against the gasket 16. rIhe nut 5 is then turned upwardly on the shank 3 to firmly secure the spout assembly to the lavatory slab, as will be clearly understood. rIhe water from the supply pipe or pipes, not shown, enters the shank 3 through the T- iitting 13, and passes through the port 3 to the spout 7.
- As before stated, the principal objection v tothe utilization of china spouts is that they are easilybroken, the weakest portions being throughout the length of the spout, ork at its juncture with the body portionk provided with the passage for thefwater` controlling elements. .In order to strengthen thek spout therefore, and to provide for the usual soap receptacle, I form the cup 8 and the kspout 7 as an integral structure, and form reinforcing ribs 18, 18 on the bottom portion of the cup 8, extending in a plane running longitudinally of the spout. Such ribs 18 not only serve to strengthen the spout 7 and r the integral cup 8 against accidental breakage, but also facilitate the removal of the soap from the cup, as will beV understood.
In addition it is to be noted that the lip 17 which extends longitudinally and interiorly of the spout 7, is positioned to yreceive the first contact of the water which enters the spout. In some cases this water is of a temperature very much higher than 'the temperature of the spout, and the in- -tense heat of the water is absorbed by the metallic lip` 17, thereby preventing breakage of the china spout 7.
Figs. 3 andL l show a modified structure which is similar in all respects to the assembly just described, except that the cup 8 is not extended over the top of the projection 9.
From the foregoing it will be clear that Iy have provided a structure which not only safely permits the utilization of a china spout, but which is possessed of an added advantage, in that it also provides a china cup which is integrally formed as a strengthening member for the spout.v
Variousy modifications of the structure herein set forth will be suggested to those skilled inthe art. but my invention covers all embodiments falling fairly within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. lavatory fitting comprising a basin, and a supporting slab apertured to receive a movable element, a shank surrounding said element and extending through the aperture and provided with a` peripheral flange adapted to clamp the slab and retain the shank in position, a spout in communication with said shank, and a lip carried upon the upper portion of said shank and extending into said spout whereby to limit lthe spout, whereby suoli named parts are Ymutually reinforced.
