Description

Patented Sept. 17, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE J'ACQU'ARD-CARD HOLDER Application filed January 28, 1928. Serial No. 250,207.
This invention relates to improvements in handling and storing cards used in jacquard weaving; and has for its object a labor saving convenient way of carrying and systematically storing of the cards.
I attain these results by the device as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings.
Fig. 1 represents a perspective view of the rack and holder with cards.
Fig. 2 is a detail of rail or pipe supports.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of same.
Fig. 1 shows holder with the cards.
F 5 is an enlarged plan view of Fig. 4 and Fig. 6 shows the holder spanning the cards in act of engaging.
In the drawings similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The support 1 for the rods or pipes are secured to the floor and also above in a vertical position.
The brackets 2 slide over the sup ort 1 and are secured by screws or are clamped by bolts.
Each bracket 2 has its open ends 4: which support horizontal bars, pipes or rods 3.
A number of these pipes 3 are arranged as shown in. Fig. 1 on which the card holders are hung.
The card holder consists of a member with an opening 6 which spans the pipe 3, one end 5 of the member is for balancing and handling the other end 7 for guiding the holder as it slides over pipe 3 in taking down or hanging up the bundle of cards.
The extreme end 10 of the part 3 of the member mentioned above has a rod 11 of any desired length, secured in said end.
The upper member of the holder has a recess 6 or place cut out so as to hold the device in a balanced position on the supporting pipes 3.
The member has a pivot 14 on which there is a swinging part 12 attached. The extreme end of 12 also has a hub with a hole in which rod 9, of any desired length, is secured.
The piece 12 also has an extension with a lug 15 which engages the part 13 preventing the lifter from closing too much.
The cards 17 in jacquard weaving are tied in a cumbersome bundle when not in use and each wire 16 on the cards which slide over the card risers when in use, projects from to 1% over each end of the cards. Over these ends of 16 the holders are spanned as shown in Fig. 6. The one end 10 is placed over the ends of 19 and the other end of 8 is opened far enough to span over end 18 and drawn up to position as shown in Fig. 4 thus supporting the entire bundle of cards which are then. easily and conveniently hung on the rods or bars 3 well balanced and easily taken off without any disturbance to the cards.
The bundles are easily tabulated and present an orderly and systematical filing and can be handled by one person easily.
Having thus described by invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a device for handling and storing cards used in jacquard weaving, a holder, having an upper member with an extending lower arm and a lower pivoted member, one end of the upper member used as a handle, a recessed part which fits over a supporting pipe, a rod secured in the extreme end of the one arm of the upper member, a pivoted member with a rod secured in the extreme end of said pivoted lower member and a lug engaging the arms to regulate the scope as set forth and described.
2. In a device cards used in jacquard weaving, a holder consisting of an upper member with an extended lower arm, an upper member recessed to fit over a supporting pipe or rail, a part on the upper member adjacent to the said recess to )ermit of sliding and guiding of holder on the supporting pipe,in connection with a lower pivoted member and an engaging lug on said pivoted member as and for the purposes as set forth and described.
Signed at Paterson in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey this 26th day of January A. D. 1928.
