To all whom t may camera.'
' Be it known that. I, RUBY O. Woon, a citizen of the United States, vresiding at Spokane, in Spokane County and State of Washin on, have invented certain new and useful mprovements in` Hand Bags, of
. which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to 'improvements in hand bags known asv portemonnaies or, pocket books, and especially adapted for such receptacles as used by ladies and carried in the hand or on the wrist. The primary object of the invention is the provision of a novel form of U-frame to which a selected bag may be attached vand secured for use, and. which may withequalA facility be .detached from the frame when a desired. Thus a number of rece tacles of various materials and colors an adapted to match complementary dresses or other 4 outer garments may be interchangeably A* dress.
used; a selected receptacle or bag may be attached to the frame and secured or fast'- cned thereon, and with e ual convenience the receptacle or bag may l e `detached and another substituted to match a different 'The invention v consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of parts involving a U-shaped frame, and receptacle or bag with means forjsuspending the bag and with means for securing the suspende bag on the frame as will hereinafter` be more fully set forth and claimed. a In the accompanying drawingslhave il'- lustrated one complete 'example of the physical embodiment of my invention'- wherein the parts are combined and ar- `of the bag, as at line 2-2 of one l.of the U-shape ranged in accord with thebest mode' Il have thusfar devised for the practical Vapplication of the principles of my invention.
Figure lis aview in side elevation of a bag embodying `my invention, parts g broken away for 'convenience of il? dustrationa' Figure 2 i'san enlarged, vertical, transverse sectional-view at the upper portion ligurel.
Figure 3 is( a detail perspective view of d frame bars, showi the relation thereto f the hemmedv had Figure 4 is an enlarged detailsectional view of a portion of one of the U-fshaped closure plates; with an end of one of the U-barsseatedinapocketthereinf L placed placketsat the'two ends of the bag.- The ag is made up as a separate and detachable article and is ada ted to be suspended for' use on a pair of U- ars 3 and 4, These bars are of duplicate construction and size, pr'eferably made up of wire possessing the rigidity for the purpose, and each barhas an epd. as 5 and 6 bent at rightlangles theree The barsy are provided with a smooth' finish in order'thatl they may readily 'be slipped through the hemmed u penedges or casings 2 extending Aalong ese edges and the edges of the-plackets. A bar may be entered into the casing by first inserting one of the angular ends.5 or 6 in the o en end of a ca'sin at the bottom of the plac et; after which t e casing of the ba may be slipped along over the bar and own the opposite bent end as indicated in Figure 3. Whenfboth of thou-bars have been thus entered and are encasedwithin the casings ing toits support.
A duplicate pair of U-sha ed frame plates 7 and8.of usual form are a apted to enclose the upper end of the bag and theUbars. These frame plates are hinged at 9 9 in well known manner andare rovided with fastening knobs 10 for frictional, snap en- 'gagement, I but it .will be understood that .other closures may be used if desired. carryin and ot er accessories may bei used if -re quired or desired; f a These frame plates are adapted to enclose the upper ed is of the bag and the two` U-bars, and or supporting the bars each frame plate, at. its inner side isv fashioned f with a ocket member or at the ower end of -'each TE of the frames plates, near-the hinges. e Abag, is first in pmper position between the opened, hinged, frame plates and the our pocket 12 locatedao .2 the bag is ready for-suspension and fastenfree ends frictionally `of the bag ends of the two U-bars are slipped into their complementary pockets' or socket members.'- In this position the encased U-bars extend along the inner edges of the U-frame plates and are held in place by means of a series of detents 13. The detents are angular in shape and may be-made somewhat resilient to frictionally engage over the encasedU- bars. They are spaced at suitable intervals along the U-bars, three for each frame being used as indicated in Figure 1, and the detents are hinged or .pivoted as at '14 on the inner faces of the frame plates. With the pivoted detents turned to inoperative position the ends of theU-bars may be slipped into their sockets and the U-bars adjusted to correct position, after which the pivoted detents are turnedon their pivots with their engaging over the encased U-bars as indica-ted 1n Figure 2. In this position the U-bars are rigidly held against displacement in any direction, and
\ the Weight of the suspended bag is imposed on the socket members serve the 12. The U-bars also purpose of preserving the shape and prevent it from saggin while at the same time holding it in extenged position. If it is desired to change one bag for another this may be accomplished by first releasing the detents,
removing the U-bars from their socketmembers, and withdraw-I ing the separate U-bars from their casings. Another bag may then be utilized as has been described.
`Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with a pair of hinged U-shaped frame plates, of a pair of U-bars adapted to suspend a,4 bag, supprting sockets on said plates to receive the ends of said bars'hand releasable means on the plates for retaining said bars.'
2. The combination with a U-shaped frame plates, of a pair of U-bars adapted to suspend a bag, means on the plates for supporting said bars, and pivoted detents on the plates for engaging said bars.
3. The combination with va pair of hinged U-shaped frame plates, of a pair of U-bars adapted to suspend a bag, sockets on said plates for supporting the ends of said bars, and pivoted detentson the plates for retain# in said bars. i
n testimony whereof affix my signature.
