UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SELINA THOMPSON, OF PEOATONIOA, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN PORTABLE STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,797, dated January 25, 1876; application filed December 14, 1875.
To all whom it may concern: v
Be it known that I, SELINA THOMPSON, of Pecatonica, in the county of Winnebago and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My present invention is intended as an improvement upon the Letters Patent No. 164,341, granted to me June '8, 1875; and it consists in the construction of an attachment to be used on top of the stove, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which the figure represents a longitudinal section of my invention.
A represents the body of the stove, made in any suitable form, and supported upon legs B B. In one side of the stove is a door, 0, and within the stove are skeleton shelves E, upon which the victuals are to be baked or cooked. Near each end of the stove passes a vertical pipe, D, extending through the stove a suitabledistance above and below the same. At the bottom of each pipe D is a hearth,- a, and a draft-aperture, I). above the same, closed by a slide, 61, as shown. 0 is the grate for the fuel, located on a line with the bottom of the stove, or otherwise,'if desired, the fuel being put in from the top of the pipe.
These parts are constructed substantially in the manner shown and described in my former patent above referred to, and they may be made of any suitable metal or combination of metals.
On the upper end of each pipe D is placed an attachment consisting of a funnel-shaped pan, G, with flat top H, and a collar or pipe, I, at its lower end, to fitover the pipe D. In the top H is an ordinary stove-hole, h, in which a kettle or other cooking-utensil may be placed. When no utensil is used on this stove-hole it is covered by a lid, J. The top H is further provided with a stove-pipe collar, t, and the two stove-pipe collars t" t' are connected by a double elbow, K, in the centQI' ofwhich is the stove-pipe L.
The stove thus constructed may be used in the house or out of doors, as desired, and may be used for all culinary purposes. It is Very easy to handle for camping out, for picnics, camp-meetings, or any other purpose.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the pipes D in the stove A, of the funnel-shaped pans G, provided with the collars I and flat tops H, having stove-holes h and collars 2', the double elbow K. and pipe L, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
I11 testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 18th day of November, 1875.
SELINA THOMPSON.
