ADVERTISING OR DISPLAY DEVICE.
Application filed January 3, 1927. Serial No. 158,443.
This invention has for its object to provide an advertising or display device, upon which, for example, a trade-mark or other matter may be displayed, for easy attachment to poultry, meats, fruits or other commodities and which, wheny attached, is not very easily detached or removed and which, furthermore, is composed of materials which will not be affected by or affect the commodity to which it is attached to injure the latter as by chemical reaction.
Tifo preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. l is a perspective view of an advertising or display device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same. 4
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail section of the same showing the device before completion by the final operation.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a staple element constituting a part of the device.
My said device comprises a well-known type of button or badge consisting of a circular metallic disk l having an annular flange 2, a cover-sheet of pyroirylin material 3 eXtendinO` over the outer face of the disk l and over and about the flange 2 thereof, and a second metal disk 4 disposed Within the flange 2 of the disk l and bearing on its circumferential edge against the portion 5 of the covering 3 which lies within the flange, the latter being crimped or bent inwardly of the insertion` of the disk 4 for preventing removal of the latter.
The disk 4 is preferably provided with an annular flange 6 forming a shallow truncated cone, the free edge of said flange projecting sufficiently beyond the plane of the body of the disk 4 to space the same from the body of the disk l. The said disk 4 is also provided with a circular bead 7 projecting from the face thereof opposite that beyond which the flange 6 projects and which constitutes a part of said flange 6, said annular rib'or bead being adapted to bear upon the surface of the commodity to which the said button is attached.
The disk 4 is also provided with a pair of slots 8 equally spaced from its center and through which the arms 9 of the staple-like member l() pass, the said arms projecting fr om the beaded face of the disk 4 and terminating in the arrow-heads or barbed prongs 1l, the middle portion of said member 10 being confined between the disks 1 and 4.
The said member 10 is composed of a metal, preferably rust-proof sheet steel, which will not be affected by the juices of the commodity into which the arms 9 are inserted. f
The covering 3 may have the trade-mark or other matter to be displayed printed directly upon the same, or such matter may be printed upon a thin paper label confined between the disk l and covering 3, the latter being in such case of the transparent type, both these methods of display being old in the art and constituting, per se, no part of the present invention.
The complete device is very easily and quickly attached to the desired commodity by merely forcing the arms 10 thereof into the same to a depth at which the disk 4 bears upon said commodity. Thus, only the display face of the device is visible and, by reason of its composition, is so attractive as to not 'readily escape the purchasers notice. The rounded` circumferential edge of the button or head of the device permits it to be easily engaged for purposes of withdrawing the arms 9 from the commodity. i
It will be noted that the middle portion lOand the adjoining' portions of the arms 9 of the sta} 3le-like member are of greater width than the main portions of the said arms 9, so that the first-named portions of said arms fit the slots 8 fairly snugly.
I claim as my invention:
A device of the kind specified comprising a button structure consisting of a dished bottom member having a flaring peripheral flange and presenting an annular external shoulder substantially V-shaped in crosssection, there being a pair of parallel slots in the middle portion of said member, a companion disk for said member having an inturned annular edge flange providing an annular groove in which the flaring flange of the bottom member is engaged, a flexible covering for said companion member extending into said annular groove and engaged between the annular edge of the peripheral flange and the bottom of said groove, and a flat sheet-metal staple member of a width substantially equal to the length of the slots in said bottom member, the arms of said staple member` extending through said slots and being recessed along their side edges and terminating in arrow-head prongs, the middle portion of said staple member being coniined between the said bottom member and companion member, seid annular shoulder of seid bottom member being adapted to bear upon the surface of the article into. which' the arms of the staple member are inserted.
