CLAMPING PANTS BUCKLE.

My invention relates to garment supports particularly adapted'to support trousers or the like on the person wearing the same.

At the present day, articles of apparel, such as trousers, are ordinarily supported in position on the wearer by means of other prior devices which prevent the garment, such as the trousers, from falling downward out of position.

In my invention, I have produced a device which I call a clampingpants buckle and which is in direct combination with the upper open portion of the garment and which exerts a constricting effect on the major portion of the open end of the garment itself, and as such garments are invariably of clinging material, as great a degree of tension need not be exerted on them as is necessary in the case of prior devices. Further, the constricting effect on the garment itself is spread over a considerable area. Consequently there is no severe constricting effect on the body of the wearer by the wearing of the clamping pants buckle.

The object of my invention, therefore, is an improved device for supporting wearers trousers.

The invention will be hereinafter considered in detail and specifically claimed. Reference will now be had to the drawing forming a part of this application, wherein there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention, but it is understood that the elements thereof can be varied or changed as for shape, size, or form, and various modifications thereof in detail and in the arrangement of the parts may be made by these skilled in the art, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawings, and particular- 1y to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, 10 designates a plate rectangular in form provided at one end with a member 11 formed integral therewith and extending at an obtuse angle therefrom. Formed on the end of the member 11 is a clamping hook 12 of suitable size. The side of the plate 10 opposite the member 11 is formed plane, as shown in Fig. 2, or may be finished in enamel, or provided with a monogram, or any other desired form of ornamentation, such face resembling in practically all respects the usual front face of a commercial beltbuckle. Onthe endofthe plate 10 remote from the member 11 and on each side thereof, are formed ears 13 and extending between the ears 13 is a rod or shaft 14. Pivotally mounted on the shaft 14 is a hinge member 15. The hinge member 15, is centrally located on the shaft 14 and on such shaft 14 on either side of the hinge member are sleeves 16, which insure that the hinge member 15 will remain in its centrally located position. Formed integral with the hinge member 15 is a rectangular plate 17 provided at the end remote from the hinge member 15 with a member 18 extending at an angle therefrom. Secured to the end of the member 18, or formed integral therewith, is a member 19 arranged practically parallel with the member 17 and having formed intermediate its ends a transverse ridge 20. Formed integral with the plate 10, adjacent to the ears 18 and on either side of the hinge member 15, are toothed members 21 which, when the device is to be attached to a garment, co-operate with the ridge 20.

Capable of being associated with the hook portion 12 is a plate 22, rectangular in shape and of any desired length such plate being provided with a plurality of parallelly ar ranged slots 28, into any one of which the hook portion 12 is adapted to enter. Formed integral with the rectangular plate 22 and at convenient intervals, along the edge thereof, are extensions or projections 24, which are utilized as sewing projections when the rectangular plate 22 is to be sewed or otherwise secured to the garment, such as a pair of trousers 25. While I have shown the elements 24 as projections and to be utilized in connection with the operation of sewing the plate 22 onto a trousers 25, yet I may dispense with the members 24 and utilize perforations arranged in any suitable fashion in the plate 22 for this purpose.

The trousers 25 are built in the usual manner and the plate 22 sewed onto one portion of the upper open top of such trousers, as clearly shown in Fig.5 and Figs. 3 and 4. The mechanism shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is then attached to another portion of the trousers 25 by sliding such portion into the space between the elements 17 and 19 and then rotating the plate 10 on the shaft 14 so as to bring the toothed members 21 into association with the ridge 20, thereby securely gripping the portion of the trousers, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. With the plate 10 and attached parts, as shown in Fig. 1, in position on the trousers 25, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, it will be obvious that the hooked portion 12 may be brought into association with any one of the parallelly arranged slots or grooves 23 to thereby reduce the diameter of the open end of the trousers 25. Further, it will be obvious that as the "fabric of the trousers is of clinging nature and that the portion of such.

trousers tensioned by the elements above described is of relatively great width, the trousers are readily and securely held in position on the wearer with comfort and ease.

Having described my invention, what I claim is:

In a clamping pants buckle, the combination of a rectangular plate adapted to be attached to one side of an enclosing garment and provided with a plurality of parallelly arranged transverse slots, a clamp buckle adapted to be removably clamped to the opposite side of said enclosing garment, said buckle comprising a U shaped clip adapted to enclose a portion of the edge of said opposite side of enclosing garment, one side of said T shaped hinge member of said U shaped clip and further adapted to receive a pin located within the said T shaped hinge of said U shaped member, up-set toothed members formed on said plate adjacent said ear members adapted to swing around the ends of said T shaped hinge of said U shaped clip and look over said V shaped rib of said U shaped member and grip the said garment therebe tween, the opposite end of said buckle plate provided with a hook member adapted to engage with the slots of said rectangular plate attached to the other side of said enclosing garment, substantially as shown and described.
