UNITED STATES 1,722,971 PATENT oFF1cE.
RUFUS KING, OF PLAINVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO BUGBEE & NILES COM- IPANY, OF NORTH .ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
BRACELET CATCH.
Application led January 29, 1929. Serial No. 335,921.
This invention relates to bracelet catches, and more particularly to a center catch employed in connection with wrist watch bracelets.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a catch of simple and economical construction which can be easily and quickly operated, which is effective for its purpose and which can be made without the use of solder.
In the drawings z* Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevation, and
Figure 3 and Figure 4 are sections on lines 3-3 and 4 4 of Figure 1.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a pair of housings or end strap connecting members 1 and 2 are employed which may be provided with the usual clamps 3 and 4 to secure the strap or ribbon ends 5 'to the housings. The housinO 1 is formed with a knuckle 6 at its outer end in which is received one side of a bail r 7. The other housing is formed with a 'similar knuckle 8, the ends of the knuckle 8 receiving' the ends of a pivoted member 9 therein. The member 9 is in the form of a generally C-shaped. member and has an outer bar 10 formed to snap into engagement with a detent keeper or head 11 formed on the free end of an extension or hookshaped arm 12 which latter is integrally connected to the housing 2. The keeper 11 is disposed opposite to the nose 13 of the hooklike arm or extension 12.
In operation, and referring particularly to Figures l and 3 of the drawings, it will be seen that by moving the catch member 9 outwardly to the dotted line position of Figure 2, same will be sprung or snapped fout of engagement with the keeper 11 whereupon the bail 7 can be moved outwardly from engagement' with the hook-like member 12. The nose 13 of the member 12 it will be noted acts to hold the member 7 from pressing against the latch member 9, to thus prevent accidental disengagement of the member 9 from the keeper 11.
l ing means for It will be noted that the parts 1'1 and 13 are formed on the free end of the hook 12 and thus provide a simple and economical construction.
In addition it will be noted that by virtue of the formation of the parts 11 and 13, 55 the members 7 and 9 are held in overlapped relation, thus affording an effective latching device in addition to one presenting a novel and attractive appearance as shown more particularly in Figure 1.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a catch, a pair of housings, each havsecuring the end of a strap therein, and each having a knuckle, a baillike member secured to one knuckle, a similar bail-like catch member pivoted to the other knuckle and formed to overlap the first member, a centrally disposed hook rigidly secured to the second named knuckle, a detent keeper for the catch member projecting forwardly from the outer end of the hook, and a nose projecting rearwardly from the outer end of the hook and formed to engage with the lirst named bail-like member to hold same in the hook.
2. In a catch a pair of end strap connecti g members each having means for securing the end of a strap thereto, one of said members being formed with an integral knuckle having an opening therethrough which latter entends transversely of the member, a hook rigidly secured to the knuckle and extending forwardly therefrom, a bail-like member journaled in said opening of the knuckle and having a free end formed with a catch, a detent keeper for the catch projecting forwardly from the outer end of the hook, and an element carried by the other connecting member and having an opening to receive the hook therethrough, said element being formed to underlie the bail-like member in latched position of the parte.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
RUFUS KING.
