MINERS SAFETY HELMET CAP.

The invention relates to a head covering particularly for use by miners while follow-k ing their occupation and has for its principal object the provision of a head covering including an insert fora miners cap that is padded and provided with a plate of metal, preferably aluminum and padded to prevent injury to the head of the miner while at work because of particles of dirt and stone falling on Vthe miners head.

A further object of the invention is the provision of an insert for miners caps comprising a hollow body made of two layers of flexible material secured together at their edges and spaced apart to receive a cushion filling, the outermost of said layers being preferably of a material that is a non-conductor of electricity and having secured thereto a metal plate, preferably of aluminum, and secured on the inner side of the outer layer with a layer of flexible material of non-conductor of electricity covering the inner side of the plate, said insert being adapted to be secured in a miners cap to shield the headof the miner frominjury by falling dirt, stones, etc. from the roof of the mine.

Thel invention, as heretofore stated, relates to an armored insert for miners caps, designated 1, that is preferably made of leather, but may be made of any suitable material, and the insert designated 2 is adapted to be secured in the cap in any suitable manner.l The insert 2 consists of an outer layer 3 made of sheet rubber or other non-conductor of electricity, and an inner layer, forming the lining of the cap, of any flexible material, designated 4, but preferably of fabric.

Secured to the inner side of the outer layer '3 is a concaved plate of metal, preferably aluminum, and 6 designates a layer of rub- Y ber or other flexible material that is also a non-conductor of electricity and arranged to cover `the inner side of the plate 5. rlhe layers 3, 5, and 6 are secured together by means of rivets 7 or any other suitable manner, and the edges 8 of the layer y6 are vulcanized or otherwise secured to the layer 3. The edges of the outer layer 3 and the lining layer t are secured together as shown at 9 in any suitable manner. The space between the layers 3 and Gand the lining layer 4 is filled 'with cushion material such for instance as cotton, felt, shredded asbestos, or the like, designated l0. The peak or topof the cap 1 and the insert2 is provided with a plurality-of Ventilating openings 11, that may if desired be defined by tubular members.
