COMBINATION SPRING HANGER FOR BROOMS AND DUSTPANS I July 30, 1929.
Filed Aug. 9. 1926 INVENTOR. Byfifi ATTORNEYS Patented July 30, 1929.
UNITED STATES OFFHCE. I
HENRY MERK, OF IBINGI-IAMTON, NEW YQBK; CHARLES COHEN ADMINISTRATOR DE BONIS NON OF SAID HENRY MERK, DECEASED.
COMBINATION SPRING HANGER FOR BROOMS AND DUSTIANS.
Application filed August 9, 1926. Serial No. 128,339.
My invention relates to improvements in combination spring hangers for brooms and dust-pans, and it has for its object to provide a compact easily workable and easily 6 constructed device of the class described. With these objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as may be hereinafter more fully described and 10 pointed out in the claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1, is a plan view of my device.
Fig. 2, is a side elevation of my device partly in cross section.
Fig. 8, is a front elevation of my device.
Fig. 4, is -a side elevation of a modified form of my device, the same reference characters denote like parts in each of the several figures of the drawings.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a hanger support A and let into the face of its outer surface, I have a channel 2 in which is horizontally mounted a spring metal band 3, each end of which is bent outwardly at right angles to the base form ing the outwardly extending arms 4, 4, each arm being again bent over, forming an elbow 5, and extending inwardly toward the base plate 3, thus forming 2 spaced apart parallel spring guides 6, 6; mounted on each arm 4: at the elbow 5, I have the hook 7 having the shank 8 of the hook bent around the elbow 5 of the arm 4-, as shown in Figs.
1, 2 and 3, the point of the hook 7 extending upward and may be in the curved form shown in Fig. 2 and in another form I have on each arm a hook with an elongated point 9 as shown in Fig. 4; the spring base 3 has an opening therein through which is mounted a screw 10 entering into the support A for fastening the spring base 3 to the hanger A. In the hanger A I have also the screw holes or openings 11, 11, for the insertion of screws 12, 12, for fastening the support A to the wall or other vertical place of support. In the operation of my device havmg screwed the support A on the wall surface hang a broom on the hanger A by inserting the handle between the spring guides 6, 6, and it is there held in removable engagement with the guides. Over the hook 7, I place the eyelet or ring of a clustpan handle for hanging a dust-pan on the support A; in the form of hook shown in Fig. 4, the blade of the pan may be inserted vertically in the parallel hook formations 9, 9. In this manner a broom and dust-pan are thus removably mounted and the dust-pan therein supported vertically and conveniently in position for ready use. The broom handle can be easily removed from its position between the guides 6, 6, and the dust-pan removed from the hook 7 or supports 9, 9.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and for which I desire Letters Patent is as follows:
A hook support comprising a sheet-metal arm having an aperture between its upper and lower edges, a metal strip extending through said aperture and having one of its end portions extending from the front of said arm downwardly beneath the arm and then upwardly against the back of the arm, the other portion of said strip extending upwardly along the rear of the arm, over the top of the latter and terminating in a hook arranged at the. front of said arm.
In testimony whereof I have alfixed my signature.
HENRY MERK.
