This invention relates to an improved carding device for effecting the mounting and display of artificial teeth, and the primary object of the invention resides in the provisions of a carding device of this character wherein provision is made for the display of symbols or other identifying indicia for use in connection with the device but wherein changes may be made from time to time in the symbols or other indicia'without effecting the carding device itself. It has been the practice heretofore to roduce a carding device wherein the meta or other material constituting the base of the device has been stamped or otherwise marked with the s mbols or indicia employed to identify the particular artificial teeth mounted thereon. This hasV resulted in-providing a permanent application of the symbols to the carding device, thereby limiting the device to the particular grade of teeth initially arrayed thereon. In accordance with the present' invention this limitation is overcome by providing the carding device with an interchangeable means by which symbols and identifying indicia of various kinds may be applied to or. removed from the carding device at will, so that the field of usefulness of said device is greatly enlarged. It is another object of the invention to provide a carding device wherein the same is provided with an opening arranged in registration with a removable indicla bearing member interchangeably mounted upon the rear face of the device whereby the indicia will be viewable through said opening, but wherein substitutions may be quickly and easily effected so as to enable varying symbols to be employed in connection with an one of the carding devices formed' in accor ance with the features herein.

Referring more particularly to the drawing the numeral 1 desi ates in its entirety the improved carding telifice comprising the present invention. In its present method of modified form of the construction the device isv formed to comprise a sheet metal base 2 upon the front of' -which is mounted a metallic retaining strip 3', which carries a plurality of Ilugs 4 that are capable of being received within slots 5 provided in the lingual faces 6 of the artificial teeth 7 formed in connection with the base. The specific means for detachably connecting the teeth 7 with the base 2 do not enter directly into the present invention, as

it is in the scope of the latter to employ any suitable means for detachably connecting the teeth of the carding so supported. For example, certain art-ificial teeth are formed with laterally projecting pins and, as shown in Figure 6, a base 18 is provided by which teeth of this .construction are'detachabl connected therewith. rom this construction it will be observed that in lieu of rmanently marking the carding device, t e present inventionpro vides for an interchangeable marking thereof. For example, artilicial teeth are usually identified by their form and color, each form bearing a certain identifying symbol and likewise the color. By the present invention the mere insertion of the plate 11, which may be in the nature of a card-board strip, into operative relation with the carding device, I am enabled to identify any particular grouping of teeth which may be placed on the device. If later on a diferent grouping of teeth is provided having other'physical characteristics, I remove the first card and substitute a second card which corresponds to the latter applied teeth. This construction, therefore does away with the necessity of marking the carding device for each group in a 'permanently impressed forln and substitutes a muc-h more flexible and readily controlled system of identification. In the case of the invention `disclosed in Figures 4 and 5 the longitudi- 17 which serve to resiliently retain the plate orl card 11 in registration .with the sight opening as previously explained.

In ,the form of the invention disclosed in Figures 6 and 7 the base 18 of the carding device has its forward face provided with a plurality of integral outwardly struck tongues 19, which constitute a holder in which a replaceable symbol bearing card 20 is adapted to be mounted. In Figure 8 the base 21 of the carding device is formed from Celluloid or some other transparent or semi-transparent material, and in this case the symbol bearing strip is mounted on the back side of the base and is viewable because of the transparent properties of the material constituting the base.

What is claimed is: l

A carding device of the character described comprising a display plate having openings therethrough near the upper edge thereof and occupying a comparatively small area of the plate, holding means on the rear of and at the top and bottom edges of the plate, and an indicia card substantiallycoextensive with said plate and detachably held thereto by said holding means and bearing indicia for display through said openings, the lower part of the plate having a'display of goods on its face.
