Description
W. KLEIN.l
FIRE-BOX Fon A WASHINGMACHINE.
INVENTOR ATTORNEY N.FETERS. PHOTO-LITMOGRAFHER, WASHINGTON, D CV UNITED STATES PATENT EEIGE.
WILLIAM KLEIN, OF ST. PETERS, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FIRE-BOXES FOR A WASHING-MACHINE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,129, dated January 11,1876 application tiled December 23, 1875.
' description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of' this specification.
My invention is intended as an improvement upon the Washing-machine for which Letters Patent No. 107,431 were granted to John B. Woolsey7 September 13,1870; and it consists in an improved construction of thelire-box under the bottom ot' the washing-machine box, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make y and use the same, I will now proceed to deribe'its construction and operation, referring the annexed drawing, in Which- Figure l is a transverse vertical section of my improved hre-box. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same, and Fig. 3 is an end viewthereof.
A represents the Haring lire-box, open at the top, and provided with ianges x around its upper edge, to be attached to the bottom of the washing-machine box in any suitable manner 5 or it may be attached by means of a strap, as described in the patent of Woolsey i above referred to. B represents the liregrate, formed in the bottom of the `box A, the bottom C being left solid all around the grate, as shown in Figs. l and 2. Belowr this bottom is what is called a drop-bottom, E, ex tending beyond the grate B on all sides, and in the same is placed an ash-drawer, D, Which is larger than the area covered by the grate B, so that all ashes Will fall into said drawer, and not get into the drop-bottom E. In the front of the ash-drawer are suitable draftopenings.
I` am aware that portable stoves or portable furnaces having a fire-box, grate, and ashdrawer are not new, and I do not claim such, therefore, as being my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an improvement on the Washing-machine patented by J. B. Woolsey, September, 13, 18707 the within-described stove, consisting otl the elongated fire-box A, with anges a: x and solid bottom C, having center grate B, extended drop-bottom E, and extended ashdrawer I), all as` shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 24th day of March, A. D. 1875.
WILLIAM KLEIN. [L.
