Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT MOORE, OF NORTHVILLE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN sQuAREs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,947, dated January l1, 1876; application filed Ju'ne 2o, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT MOORE, of Northville, in the' county of Fulton and State of N ew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Try-Squares, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specitication, in whichv Figure 1 represents an isometrical view of my improved try-square. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view ofthe same, taken through the line x a: of Fig. 3, the latter being an end View.
My invention relates to the construction of try'squares; and it consists in the device as a Whole when its parts are constructed and arranged as and for the purposes hereinafter set forth.
A is the bar or tongue, having the end which is united or secured to the haft B punched, or
4 otherwisenotched or roughened, for the purpose of permitting the molten metai of which the haft is composed to iioW in and iix itself firmly thereto as it becomes cooled. The tongue vmay be notched, as represent-ed at c, Fig. 2, or in any similar manner, to effect the desired object. The haft or stock B is cast from yellow brass, bronze, composition,7'or any suitable metal, in appropriate molds, and in the general form shown, being depressed, concaved, or recessed longitudinally between the two edges d and e. Its outer edge, d, is
made about one-half the Width of the inner trying face or edge, e, for convenience in handling. The Web f, constituting the intervening space between the two edges, is made much thinner than either, in order to secure greater lightness, a cross-section of the haft presenting a similar appearance to that of the ordinary T-rail, the base of which, as shown in` or molten state a firm and rigid union is obtained, and the labor heretofore performed on the various parts composing the ordinary haft is greatly reduced.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, -is- The haft B, formed as shown and described, i and provided with the stop or rest g', in combination with the tongue A, vas and for the purpose specified.
ALBERT MOORE.
