PORTABLE LADDER STEP.
Application filed February 23, 1927.
This invention relates to a detachable step fora ladder, the general object of the invention being to provide means foi converting an ordinary ladder into a step-l adder so that the user of the ladder can stand on the step attachment in the same manner that he would use the step of a step-ladder.
Another obje-ct of the invention is to make the attachment foldable so that it lwill occupy but little space when not in use.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several part-s, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed ont in the appended claim.
In describing' my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying' drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding;` parts throughout the several views, and in which zlligure l is a sectional View on line l--l of Figure 2.
Figure 2 is a front view of portion of the la dder shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view through the attachment with the same in closed position.
Figure t is a perspective view of the attaclnnent in closed position.
As shown in these views, the attachment comprises a step part A. and a brace part B, the step part forming; a platform l which fastened to the upper edges et the side pieces E2, each side piece having,l a notch 8 in its rear end for receiving` a rung' of a ladder, such as shown at C. Ilins Lit are passed through holes formed in the step part to hold the rung at the rounded inner ends of the notches, as clearly shown :in Figure l.
The brace part comprises the two, side pieces 5 which are pivotall'y connected with the front end of the step part by the rod 6 and the step forming?,` piece 7 which connect `the lower ends of the side pieces 5 together. rIhe upper ends of the side pieces 5 are rounded so that they will be 'tree to more under the platform l and their lower ends are notched, at 8, to receive a rung of the ladder C. The rung is held in the notches by means of the pins l) which are similar to the pins Ll. rl`he piece 7 is set at an angle so that when the attachment is in place it will be parallel with the platform I or substantially so, as shown in Figure 1.

From the foregoing;` it will `be seen that I have provided a simple arrainrement of parts which, when applied to a ladder, will form two flat steps upon either one of which a person can stand while pzfiintiilgr or performing' other task without discomfort as is the case .vhen standing on the rounds of an ordinary ladder. It will also be seen that the device will adjust itself to ladders, the rounds of which are set at various distances apart and when in place, the part A is lirmly held against movement by the brace part B. IV hen the attachment is not in use, it can be folded, as shown in Figures 3 and 4;, so that it :an be stored in a small space.
It is thought from the foregoing: description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may malte changes in. the confitruction. and in the combination and arrangen'ient of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is Means for convertingr an ordinary ladder into a step-ladder comprising a step forming' part including a platform and a pair of depending' side pieces, one at each end of the platform, said side pieces having); notches in their rear ends for rcceivinea rung' of the ordinary ladder, a brace forming` part inw cludinp; a pair of nprirhts and a single step formii'igl strip connecting' the uprights to* gethei.' adjacent their lower ends, said lower ends of the uprights having; notches therein for receiving1 a rungl of an ordinary ladder, the notches terminating); adjacent the strip 'whereby the strip will. rest upon the rune, a rod passing througrlji the upper ends of the uprights and throngrh lthe lront ends of the side pieces for pivotally connecting' the step part with the brace part, pinspassingthrnugh the notched portions for connectingI the parts with the runggs of the ladder, the step part being of less lei'igth than the brace part whereby the rear end of the step part can be folded between the uprights of the brace part, with the platform of greater width than the brace part whereby the platform will overlap the uprights when the device in folded position.
