ARTICLE OF MANUFACTURE Fi] ed Nov. 15 1927 NW (fa firm m w Patented June 25, 1929.
UNITED STATES RAFAEL CORIA, F EAGLE PASS, TEXAS.
ARTICLE OF MANUFACTURE Application filed November 15, 1927.
This invention relates to a novel article of manufacture.
One object of the invention is to provide an article of the character described embodying a suitable background and a figure carved, or otherwise formed, in relief thereon, said figure corresponding in its external contour to the apparent features of a photograph, or other picture which is superimposed on, and adhered to, said figure; and the invention further comprehends the process by which said. article is produced.
With the above and other objects in view the invention relates to a novel article of 5 manufacture, and the process of making the same more specifically hereinafter described and explained, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows a front elevation. Figure 2 shows a sectional View taken on the line 22 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 shows a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Referring more particularly to the draw- 5 ings the numeral 1 designates a background, which may be rectangular, or of other shape, and which may be composed of Wood, or other suitable material.
The desired figure, as 2, is carved, or otherso wise produced in relief, from said background. This figure may be formed by plac ing a photograph, or picture, on the background and tracing around the same, on the background, and then carving around the tracing so as to bring the traced figure 2 into relief, as more accurately indicated in Figures 2 and 3. The features of the photograph, as for ex- Serial No. 233 ,450.
ample, the eyes, nose, mouth, etc. are then carved, or otherwise formed, in relief on the figure 2, said features corresponding to the features of the photograph or other picture, and the photograph, or picture, 3, is then, superimposed upon the figure, with its features registering with the corresponding features carved, or formed, on said figure and adhered thereto and a better, and more lifelike, or real, reproduction of a person or object thus obtained.
There may be formed, on the background, by the carving of the figure, an oval, or other surrounding demarcation, as 4:, forming a frame for the completed production.
I have described only one form of the article, and one method of producing the same but it is obvious that variations may be made therein without departing from the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is The process of producing an article of manufacture which consists in placing a picture on a background and tracing an outline of the picture on said background, then forming a figure, in relief, on said background, by carving around said tracing and forming on the surface of said figure, in relief, the features represented on said picture, then adhering over said features so formed a flexible covering bearing said picture, with the features of the picture coinciding with the corresponding features formed in relief on the surface underneath.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
RAFAEL CORIA.
