Description

June 4, 1929. RI'TS'CHE 1,716,242 I HOUSEHOLD BIN Filed Jan. 10, 1928 //Z 73 4 "/4 I INVENTOR wnNEssEs flewlomjfzsdk 4 & BY a ATTORNEY Patented June 4-, 1929.
HOUSEHOLD BIN.
Application filed January 10, 1928.
My invention relates to a bin which while having special advantages for use as a coal bin is also adapted for holding fiour and other materials.
The general object of my invention is to provide a novel tiltable bin which will overcome objections to bins having a hinged connection with a fixed structure of a cabinet and held to the fixed structure in a manner to prevent the tiltable bin from dropping suddenly when it is moved to the open or closed positions, and which will not have a tendency to rock or knock against the fixed structure.
Further objects are to provide a box or tiltable bin that may be removed entirely from the fixed structure for the purpose of cleaning or for convenience in filling or removing its contents; to provide a compact structure without waste of space, having a maximum capacity for given size of structure, and to produce a bin of the indicated character involving the minimum amount of lumber or other materials employed in the manufacture of the article.
The nature of my invention and its distinguishing features and advantages will clearly appear as the description proceeds.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the bin with its container cabinet or fixed structure, and
Figure 2 is a view showing a vertical section of a fixed structure or box or enclosure, and showing in side elevation the tiltable bin or container partly broken away, the.
dot-and-dash lines indicating the tiltable bin in an open position.
In carrying out my invention in practice in accordance with the illustrated example, a fixed box-like structure 10 is provided in which is accomodated a tiltable bin or container 11 which may be moved from the fullline inner position of Figure 2 to the open position indicated by dot-and-dash lines in Figure 2.
Within the structure 10 at the sides are members 12 having oblique slots 13 open at the upper end in which slots are movable of the pin 11. 11 are cleats or strips 15 which rest on rollers Serial No. 245,784.
pins 14 projecting laterally beyond the sides On the under side of the bin 16 held in fixed position and turnable on pins 17 disposed near the front of the structure 10.
On the bin 11 at the top is provided stops 18 in the form of a turn button 19 or other suitable fastening means to permit of said turn button being so disposed as to project above the top of bin 11, as shown clearly in Figure 2, to contact with the cleat or frame member 20 on the fixed structure 10 when the bin 11 is moved to the open position.
With the described structure the bin 11 may be tilted vertically to extend beyond the structure 10 for convenience in filling or removing the contents of the bin. By turning the button 18 within the plane of the top of the bin 11 the said bin may be entirely removed from the structure 10 as the pins 14 may escape from the upper end of slots 13.
The tilting of the bin 11 to the open position is accomplished readily and conveniently by reason of the rollers 17 and the guided movement afforded to the pins 14 in slots 13, the arrangement being such that the bin is always steadied and remains in any position in which it may be left.
I would state, furthermore, that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A structure of the class described adapted to hold materials, including a fixed box-like structure, a bin accomodated within said structure, rollers on which the bin rests and over which it may have movement, and pins on the bin extending laterally, vertical members at the opposite sides of the interior, of said fixed structure, said members having guide slots in which the pins are permittedmovement, said guide slots extending obliquely in said members and being straight and open at their upper ends for the complete removal of said pins.
2. A structure of the class described adapted to hold materials, including a boxlike fixed structure, a bin accoinodated withbin at the bottom, and said guide slots perin said structure, rollers on which the bin rnitting the entire removal ofthe pins from rests and over Which it may have movement, the upper ends of the slots. 0 and pins on the bin extending laterally, said Signed at Eden Valley, in the county of .5 fixed structure having guide slots in Which Meeker and State of Minnesota, this 4th day the pins are permitted movement, the said of January, A. D. 1928. pins being located adjacent to the back of the THEODORE RITSCHE.
