AUTOMOBILE Asn TRAY. I
. The present invention relates to improve- .etc. through the floor of the vehicle upon the road bed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a suitable yielding cover for this ash tray which allowscigarette stubs and the like to be urged therethrough andautomatically closes again.--' A A further object provide a suitable lining for the ash tray that may be easily removed for the purpose of cleaning the-same.
Further and other objects of the invention will appear asthe specification proceeds.
Thepreferred form of my invention is 11- lustrated' in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 shows a fragmentary sectional view through a vehicle body lookingfrom the rear toward'the steering wheel,.with my ash 'tray'att-ached thereto; I
Figure 2, a vertical section through the ash tray, with 'a fragmentary view of the automobile body to which'it is attached; and Figure 3, a perspective detail view of a receptacle lining the ash tray.
VVhile I have shownonly the preferred form of my invention, I wish to have it understood that the same may bechanged in various respects within'the. scope of the claim attached hereto without departing from the spirit of the invention. 4 1
In its preferred form, my ash tray comprises a preferably tapering receptacle 1 having a discharge conduit 2 extending downwardly from the bottom thereofi. In the form selected, I showthis ash tray as being fastened to one of the doors 3 of a vehicle body, but it should be understood that the same may be fastened to a fixed part of the body.
The fastening means comprises preferably two clips 4 passing around the conduit and fastened to the door by means of screws 6. Where the ash tray is fastenedto the door, the conduit extends downwardly to the vehicle as indicated in Application filed September 11, 1928. Serial No. 305,185.
within close proximity of the floor of the vehicle body and registers with a second conduit 7 provided inthe floor 'whenthe door is closed. The second conduit 7 is curved rearwardly underneath the body of igure 2. It should be understood that when the ash tray is fastened to a fixed body of the ve 1 hicle, the two conduits may be joined into one.
To allow the ash trayfto be cleaned con- 4 veniently, I use a cup-shaped lining 8 adaptof the invention is to.
ed to be fitted into the tray and corresponding to the form thereof.
On top of the ash tray, 1' provide two' 5 swinging beyond a horizontal position un-- 7 I der the influence of the springs. It'will be seen that when it is desired to dropashes or a cigarette stub into the ash tray, the gates can be easily'depressed to provide an' open-- ing for the article to be discharged into the tray.
The manner in which my tray may be used will be readily understood from the foregoing description. The ashes or cigarette stubs may be easily-dropped through the hinged gates and the latter will automatically return to a closing position. I For the purpose of cleaning the ash tray, the lining 8 may be easily removed. 1
The break in the conduit allows the door to be opened, and when the door is closed, the ashes or cigarette stubs'dropped into the ash tray will be automatically discharged upon the road bed.
closed.
