UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
- JONATHAN OAPSTAGK, OF BARNESVILLE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN, TWlSTlNG-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,548, dated December-28, 1875; application filed May 17, 1875.
To all whom it mag/concern:
Be it known that I, JONATHAN CAPSTAGK,
machine, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexeddrawing, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section on line w a, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is cross-section on y 2 Fig. l. I
A represents the frame of my machine, in the lower part of which, near one side, are the journal-bearings for a drum or cylinder, B. On one of the journals of this drum is placed a pulley, a, connected by a rope or belt, b, with a large grooved pulley or wheel, 0, secured on a counter-shaft, d. On this shaft is further secured a conical pulley, D, which is by a rope or belt, 6, connected with a similar pulley, D, on the shaft f of the reel E. The drum or cylinder B is, by a cord or belt, h, connected with a pulley, i, on the lower end of a vertical spindle, m, having its hearings in the frame A. On this spindle are secured two horizontal disks or circular plates, G and G.
From the lower plate Gr project upward a series of short vertical spindles, n, on which the bobbins H are placed. In theupper disk G are made slots as, corresponding with the num ber of bobbins, and extending from the edge of the disk inward for a suitable distance, and
at the inner end of each slot 00 is a-larger slot, y, in which is placed a rubber shoe, 8, attached to the end of a spring, 1;. The other end of this spring is secured to a plate or lever, t,
The machine may be operated by crank, or
a treadle applied to the drum or cylinder B, and the tension on the threads is easily regulated by the devices above described. By changing the position of thecord or belt 0 on the conical pulleys D D, more or less twist may be given to the yarn, as desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a spinning-machine, the tension-regulating device herein described, consisting of the rubber shoe 8, spring 1), pivoted plate or lever t, and button 12, arranged as described, to operate on the thread in the slots a: y of the disk G, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JONATHAN OAPSTAOK.
