HORSE-cotizan NECK Pani Application amanecer-libert, 1927; yseriaifirki. 237,778. Y
My invention relates to horse collars and particularly to neck pads for collars of this class, the principal objects of the invention being to provide a neck pad having a smooth 'under surface, to provide a pad adapted `lor collars ot different sizes, to insure the Yproper positioning of a neck pad onthe neck of a horse, `and to support apad securely in func-y tioning position.
In accomplishing this and other obiects -of y.my invention, Ihave provided improvedde-- tails of structure, the pret'erredfornis of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view ot the parts einbodying my invention attached to a collar.
Fig. 2 1s a cross section on the line-QQ,
i Fig.A 8.
Fig. 8 is a section on the line 3 3, Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the neck pad, disassembled from the collar.`
Referring more in detail te the drawings:
1 designates ahorse collar having ends 2 and 3, held together in adjustably spaced relation by a billet'l provided with a buckle 5.
inusual practice 'a neckpad is secured near vits center to one of the adjoining ends ofthe collar. However, vthis f method does not in- V sure that the center of the padwill rest on the center of the horses neck since the position of the pad will be shifted more or lessv to one side or the other of the central position in proportion to the variationsin space between the adjoining ends ot thejcollar caused by Vobvious necessary adjustment.
VTo overcome this and othervobjectionable features of ordinary pad means I provide a shaped pad 6 preferably formed 'of leather, having upstanding front and rear arcuate flanges 7 and 8 and a metal body plate 9 having Vcomplementary dependingianges 10 and 11 secured to the pad bysuitable means such as rivets 12. The plate 9 is further provided with spaced elongated openings 13, and with a post 1dr positioned between the openings for purposes later to be described. A curved raised portion near the forward end of the n'ietal plate is providedfor additional space at that `point-between the plate and pad to receive thebead portionV 16 of the collar, and
`also to provide for proper positioningofthe upperhame strap of harness. The flanges `7 and 8 of the pad are further supported, near
. and adj ustably @post on the their outer ends by straps 17 and 17" secured thereto as by rivets 18; f
In assembling my invention with a collar of ordinary construction, the end of the collar to which the billet is fastened is passed between over thepost, and theninserted from above through the remaining opening. The 'desii-ed position of the pad in relationl to the collar, in viewoil desired spacing of the ends of vthe collar, is conferred by selecting the proper hole in the billet to .engage the post on thev l bridge plate. then passed between the strap 17 and the Apad V secured by the billet and bucklein the usual manner.
The other endY of the collar is The pad may, therefore, be applied to a coll 'l lar requiring for effective use my desired spac-y ing of the ends of the collar, the ends of the 1 collar sliding over equal portions of the pad to center the pad on the collar, and the bridge plate attached to the pad providing means .en.
abling the collar-attached billetto latch the pad in Centered position.
`What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I
so`r
' 1. In combination withA acollar havingf abutting ends, a billet carried by the collar, 'a pad for underlying the vends of 'the collar, a plate secured to and spaced from the pad to Vreceive the ends of the collartherebetween, and means on the plate for adj ustably anchoring the" billet.y

therebetween," and ,ai plate for adpistably anchoring 4. In combinationwith a collar having lfree ends, a pad underlying thefree ends ofthe collar, a plate yiv'ed to Land spaced from the, pad having transverse, spaced slots, a'billet on. n the collar threaded through saidl slots and means on the plate ,between the slots for anchoring the billet. Y
5.1 In combination y With a collar having separate ends, a padrunderlying the ends of the collar, a plate fixed to and spaced from the pad, having spaced, transverse slots, a post on the plate between the slots, and a billet on the collar extended through said slots, having openings adapted for selectively recelvingthe post to adj ustably anchor the billet.
6'. In combination with a collar, apadihavf,
ing upstandingl llanges vat its longitudinal edges, a plate having downturned end flanges secured to the pad. flanges and spacing the plate from the pads, and havng'slots arranged transversely of the pad, a' post on the plate between the slots,V and a billet on the collar threaded tl'irongh said Slotssand anchored to said post.
Y Intestirnony whereof I affix my signature. y
