The modified form, as shown in Figs. 9, 1.0, 11 and '12, differs from the preferred form mainly in the method employed for securing the spacing-clip to the nail shank. In this form the body portion '8 is provided with a central indentation intersecting with and extending from the supportingbase 9 upwardly into intersection with the lath seat 10, and with a pair of side wings 16, which comprise opposed lateral extensions on the margins of said body portion bent backwardly into engagement with the shank 5 for holding it in the indentation 15..
The spacing-clips 7 are adapted as furring means for holding the lath 2 a distance away from the face of the wall sheathing 1, while the nails are adapted to bind the lath against the clips and to secure them and the lath to the face of the wall sheathing.
The lath 2 is intended to form outstanding reinforcement and support for the stucco composition 4., the latter adapted to be applied by spreading it on the wall sheathing and on and around the lath 2 andthe protruding portions of the spacing-clips 3.
To apply my improved wire fastener for attaching the lath after it has been disposed i across the face of the wall sheathing, the
fasteners are applied one at a time and projected at suitable spaced apart intervals, through the meshes of the lath, with the lath seats lOdisposed directly underneath the lath wires to be secured (see Fig. 1), after which the nails are driven forward until'the heads 6 engage and bind the lath wires firmly against the lath seats (see Fig. 2).
I claim:
1. In a wire fastener of the character described, a nail having a head, a spacing clip formed of a strip of sheet metal comprising a body portion disposed in a vertical plane and having a loop struck therefrom and through which said nail is frictionallyv held, the entire lower end of said body portion bentover to one side to form av supporting base and the upper end of said body portion bent over to one side to form a lath seat.
2. In a wire fastener of the character described, a nail having a head, a spacing clip formed of a strip of sheet metal comprising a body portion disposed in a vertical plane and having a loop struck therefrom and through which said nail is frictionally held, the lower end of said body portion bent over to one side to form a supporting base and the upper end of said body portion bent over to one side to form a lath seat, said lath seat having an upwardly projecting lath retaining lip.
3. In a wire fastener of the character described, a nail having a head, a spacing clip formed ofa strip of sheet metal comprising a body portion disposed in a vertical plane and having opposed loops struck therefrom between which said nail is frictionally held substantially in the plane of said body portion, the entire lower end of said body portion bent over to one side to form a supporting base and the upper end of said body portion bent over to one'side to form a lath seat.
4. In a wire fastener of the character described, a nail having a head, a spacing clip formed of a strip of sheet metal comprising a body portion disposed in a vertical plane and having opposed loops struck therefrom between which said nail is frictionally held substantially in the plane of said bodyportion, the lower end of said body portion bent over to one side to form a supporting base and the upper end of said body portion bent over to one side to form a. lath seat,
said lath seat havingan upwardly project ing lath retaining lip.
5. In a wire fastener of the character described, a nail having a head, a spacing clip formed of a strip of sheet metal comprising a body portion disposed in a vertical plane and having a loop struck therefrom and throughwhich said nail is frictionally held, the entire lower end of said body portion bent over to one side to form a supporting base and the upper end of said body portion bent over to the same side to form a lath seat.
