This invention relates to wall constructions and more particularly to Wall bases of the type generally referred to as knock-down bases.
The primary object of the present invention is the provision of means for facilitating the assembly of the base on the floor of a building in position along the line of a partition wall which is to be erected or along the line of a-plaster or other facing which isto'be applied to a previously erected wall. v v
The invention, and'the abovementioned and other objects, features and advantages of the invention will be fully understood from the following description considered in connection with the accompanying illustrative drawings.

The invention will now be more particularly described first with reference to the preferred form thereof illustrated vby Figs. 1 to 6 which show the base for a solid partition plaster wall. As is well known, such a wall comprises'a series of uprights usually in the form of channel members 52 which are disposed in spaced relation longitudinally of the wall andwhich serve to support expanded metal or other suitable lath L (Fig. 2) which is wired orotherwise suitably fastened to the studs. A ceiling runner (not shown) is provided for holding the upper ends of the studs and provision is made in the wall base for holding thelower ends of the studs. After the skeleton frame of the wall, consisting of the ceiling runner, uprights, lath, and base, is
erected, plaster is applied. filling the base and extending upwardly from the latter end, in the case of a solid wall extending from one side of the wall tothe other as indicated at P in Fig.2. The ceiling runner may be of any suitable con:- struction andis therefore not shown, since ceiling runners for holding the upper ends of the uprights or studs are well known, but it will be understood that the ceiling runner or other means for holding the upper ends of the uprights is of the type which permits the studs of predetermined fixed length to be raised so that the upper ends thereof remain engaged with the runner when the lower ends of the uprights are engaged with means provided in the base for holding said lower ends of the studs in position.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the base comprises the base plates 10 which are customarily made of sheet metal but which may be made of any other suitable sheet material. As here shown the base plates l 0 have upper and lower inturned edge portions or flanges l2 and I4, respectively, which form upper and lower recesses with the adjacent confronting portions of the inner side of the base. In accordance with the present invention, these base plates are secured in position by a series of main clips l6 and a series of companion auxiliary clips or fastening elements 2 l8. Only one set of companion main and auxiliary clips l6 and I8 is shown in the drawings, since only a portion of the length of the base is shown, but it will be understood that the wall base comprises a series of such sets of main and auxiliary clips disposed in suitably spaced relation longitudinally of the base.
The main clip l6 of each set of clips is formed preferably in one piece of sheet metal and comprises a bottom part .20 and a vertical part 22 bent upwardly from said bottom part. Vertical part 22 is in the form of a plate and has lateral projections 24 at its opposite side edges. The upper edges 26 of lateral projections 24 are inclined at the same angle as the inturned upper edge portions l2 of the base plates It so that when the said base plates are placed in position in relation to the clips [6, said base plates are suspended from said lateral portions 24 of the clips with the sides of the base plates in vertical position in abutting relation to the vertical side edges 28 of projections 24. The vertical part or plate 22 of clip [6 is provided at the opposite side edges thereof with pairs of vertically spaced wings or flanges 32 .and 34 which extend there- 1 from in substantially parallel relation with the adjacent base plate 10. It will be noted that the wings 32 and 34 at one side edge of the plate 22 extend transversely of said plate in a direction opposite to that of wings 32 and 34 at the opposite side edge of said plate. The upper wings 34 are each provided at its lower edge with a laterally projecting prong 36 for a purpose which will hereinafter be described.
In the preferred form of the invention, the auxiliary clip I8 is preferably formed in one piece of flexible metal wire and is preferably in the pre-shaped form substantially as shown. More specifically, clip l8 comprises a lower end portion 38, an upwardly inclined portion 40, an approximately vertical portion 42 extending upwardly from the adjacent end of portion 40 and an upwardly inclined portion 44 projecting upwardly from the upper end of portion 42.
As clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the base plates [0 are secured in position by fastening the same to the main clips 16 by means of the auxiliary clips l8. More specifically, after the series of main'clips are secured to the floor, the base plates ID are placed in position with the inturned edge portion l2 thereof engaging the adjacent lateral projections 24 of the series of clips l6. Then, said base plate is fastened to each of said clips by the auxiliary clips I8. This is accomplished by engaging the bent lower end portion 38 of the clip in the lower recess of the base plate, that is, between the lower inturned edge portion [4 and the inner side of the base plate, and moving the auxiliary clip is approximately in a plane parallel to the plane of the base plate, so that the portion 42 thereof engages the inner side of the lower wing or flange 32 and the outer side of the upper wing or flange 34 of the main clip It, said auxiliary clip being moved toward plate 22 until the clip engages behind the outwardly directed prong 36 of the wing 34. Therefore, it will be apparent that the auxiliary clip has its end portion 38 engaged with the lower portion M of the base plate and its intermediate .portion 42 interengaged between flanges 32 and 34 to fasten the base plate to the main clip 16.. It will be understood that when the auxiliary clip I8 is thus engaged with prong 36, the disengagement of said auxiliary clip from the companion main clip I6 is prevented, although, if necessary, disengagement or the removal of the auxiliary .clip can be accomplished by forcing such disengagement or, if necessary, cutting the auxiliary clip to enable the same to be removed. It is important to note that the upper end portion 44 of the auxiliary clip provides a handle so that the auxiliary clip may be manipulated above the top of the base plates, thus greatly facilitating the fastening of the base plates to the main clips for securing said base plates in position. Further, it will be noted that the parts of the auxiliary clips which project upwardly beyond the base plates serve to reinforce the plaster immediately above the base plates l0. As shown in Fig. 2, the upwardly projecting parts 44 of the auxiliary clips are directed laterally inwardly of the wall so that they are embedded in the plaster a suitable distance from the adjacent vertical face of the wall.
It will be understood that the series of main clips 16 are secured to the building along the line of the partition or other wall which is to be erected, with the clips of the series in spaced relation as mentioned above. In order to secure clips IE to the floor of the building, the bottom part 20 of each clip is provided with a hole 43 for a nail or other fastening element 48. The clips [6 are each provided with an upwardly-extending struck-out tongue 50 for engaging the lower endsof the uprights or channel members 52 between the confronting sides 53 of the latter, with slight clearance, for holding the lower ends of the companion channel member in position laterally of the base as well as longitudinally thereof. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the channel holding element 50 of the clips 6 is struck up from the bottom part 20 of the base, but as shown in Fig. 6 said stud holding element may be struck up from the vertical part 22 0f the clip.
The means provided in accordance with the present invention for securing the plates ii] in position in forming the base of the wall is of such character, particularly by reason of the construction of clips I5 and I8, as to enable the base plates to be adjusted in the direction of their lengths, if necessary, after said base plates are fastened in position by the attachment of said base plates to clips i6 by the auxiliary clips [8. For example, if it is necessary to move a base plate In toward the end of an adjacent base plate II), at the same side of the base, in order to obtain a tight fit with the splice plate which is customarily provided at the inner sides of adjacent base plates, the free end of the base plate may be tapped so as to move the base plate toward the adjacent base plate in'the direction of the extension of end portion 38 of the auxiliary clip so that the base plate slides longitudinally of the ends 38 of the clips 18. "On the other hand, if it is necessary to move the base plate in the opposite direction, the base plate may either slide in engagement with the projections 38 or if sliding action does not occur the clips I 8 may flex to permit movement of the base plate thus permitting adjustment of the base plate without disengagement or loosening of the auxiliary clips.
In Figs. 1, 2. and 6 the stud-holding tab '50 is shown disposed centrally between the opposite vertical side edges of clip Hi. It will be understood, however, that the tab 50 may be located so that it is somewhat, say about A,, further from the vertical edge of the clip at which the When a single base plate H] is used at the base of a furred wall wherein vertical channels 52 are employed for the furring, the main clips l8 are provided with the projection 24 and the companion wings 32 and 34 at only one and the same side edge of the clips. For purpose of illustration such clip may be considered as though projection 24 and wings 32" and 34 were cut off from the clip shown in Fig. 3 along the dot-and-dash line A-B at and flush with the adjacent vertical edge of plate 22 of said clip. It will be understood, however, that'the clips may be made initially at the factorywith a. projection 24 and wings 32 and 34 at only one of the side edges of the clip. When the clips l6 are to be used with a hollow partition wall wherein two laterally spaced rows of channel studs 52 are required, plates 22 of ,the clips l6 are made of the proper width and the clips are each provided with two laterally spaced tabs such as the tab 50 so that each clip may holdthe lower ends of two studs 52. On the other hand, the clips N3 of the size provided for a solid partition wall may be used for a hollow partition wall by using two rows of the clips IS with the clips of one row in lateral alignment with the clips of the other row, if the thickness of the wall permits, or in any event with the clips of one row offset or staggered, longitudinally of e the base, with respect to the clips of the other row, and when the thickness of the wall-is less than the combined widths of two clips the clips of one row may be positioned in the spaces between the adjacent clips of the other row in laterally overlapping relation to the extent required by the wall thickness.
In Fig. '7 there is illustrated a form of flexible clip I8A which may be used in lieu of the auxiliary clip l8 although the auxiliary clips I8 are preferred. The auxiliary clips IBAdiffer from the preferred clips [8 in being formedfrom' flat metal stock. Otherwise the clips l8A are of the same construction ascli ps l8 and parts'40A, 42A and 44A corresponding to parts 40, 42 and 44 respectively of clips l8. f
In Figs. 8 and 9 the invention is shown applied to a base of the type which is used with a previously erected building wall to-whicna. plaster or other facing is to be applied. The base -plate is of the same construction as that fora partition wall or for a furred wall'andi'is'designated 6 by the same reference numeral Ill. The auxiliary clip may be ofthe same construction as that used for a partition wall or for a furred wall and is designated by'the same reference numeral [8. However, the mainclip 54 differs from the main clip IS in certain respects and will nowbe specifically described. 'As here shown'main clip 54 is preferably formed inone piece and comprises a vertical plate 56 adapted to be secured directly to the wall W. For this purpose plate 56 is provided with an opening58 for a nail or other suitable fastening element indicated at 60 in Fig. 8. A wing 60, which corresponds to one of the wings 24 of the clips l6, projects perpendicularly from plate 56 for engaging under the upper inwardly directed edge portion or flange l2 of the base plate. A transversely-extending portion 62 extends vertically downwardly from the wing 60 and is provided with the projections 64 and 66 which correspond to the projections or wings 32 and 34, respectively, of clip 16 and are engaged by the portion of the companion auxiliary clip 18. In .this device, the base plate In is ordinarily fastened to the series of main clips 54 by the "companion auxiliary clips l8 before the main clips are fastened to the wall W, but when there is sufflcient space between the wall and the base plate l0, clips 54 may be secured to the wall before the base plate is secured by the auxiliary clips [8. After the base plates III are secured to the wall by means of the main and auxiliary clips 54 and [8, the plaster or other facing is applied to the wall W to the line P so that the outer surface of said facing is in vertical alignment with the outer surface of the base plate. It will be understood that when'the facing is formed of plaster or other similarmaterial, the plaster may completely fill the base between the inner side of base plate [0 and the confronting side of wall W. It will be notedthat the upwardly projecting'part 44 of the auxiliary clips serve as handles for connecting the base plate to the main clips 54 and also serve to reinforce the plaster or other facing at the joint between the plaster and the base plate at the top of the latter. 'It will be noted that the width of portion 62 including wing 60 determines the distance of the outer face of plate I 0 from the building wall and thus establishes the thickness of the plaster facing P. 7
Figs. 10 tol3 show other forms of means for base plates which, like in the case illustrated by Figs. 8 and 9, are to befastened to walls of a building for. forming the base of the wall facing. As shown in Figs. 10 and 11 the clip 68 comprises a vertical plate 16 having a projecting wing 12 projecting transversely therefrom. Wing 12 has upper and lower inclined edges 14 and 16, respectively, to engage the upper and lower inwardly directed-edges or flanges l2-and 14, respectively, of the base plate [0. Plate 70, like plate 56, is long enough to project above the upper edge of base plate l0 and the upwardly projecting part of said plate is provided with a vertical slot 18 as well as with an additional opening 80. In using clips 68 for securing the base plate l0 in position, said clips may be attached to the building wall W before the base plate is engaged with said clips. More particularly clips 68 are fastened to the wall by nails or other suitable means passing through the holes 18. The elongated holes, 18 enable theclips to be moved'vertically and to be turned aroundthe companion fastening nails, respectively, so that the outer end portions of the wing 12 may be inserted in the recesses between the flanges I2 and I4 and the inner side of the base plate. :After the base plate I is thus attached to the clips 68, nails or other suitable fastening means. may be passed through the holes 88 of the respective clips 68 for preventing vertical or pivotal movement of the latter. Figs. 12 and 13 is of the same constructionas clip 68 but in addition clip 68A is provided with a reinforcing flange 82. It will be observed that the width of part 12 determines the distance of the outer faceof plate II] from the building wall and thus establishes the thickness of the plaster facing.
Referring now more particularly to Figs. 14 to 19, there are utilized main and auxiliary clips embodying another form ofthe invention. The
'main clips 84 are of the form shown in Fig. 17
and are each made up from a blank 84A shown in Fig. 19 by bending the latter along the lines indicated in Fig. 19 in dot-and-dash lines. Clip 84' comprises a bottom part 86 and laterally spaced vertical parts 88, each having an inwardly projecting vertical part 90. Each part 88 has an outwardly displaced portion 92. It will be understood that portion 92 and theremainder of part 88' from which it isydisplaced constitute flanges provided on the clip 84'which extend in substantially parallel relation with the adjacent base plate I0, as illustrated in Fig. 14. A tab 94 is bent up from bottom part 86 to hold the lower end of the stud 52 which supports the metal lath L for the plaster P- The auxiliary clips 96 are formed of fiat metal stock and each of said auxiliary clips comprises upper and lower end portions '98 and H respectively, in vertical alignment and engageable with the adjacent base plate in the recesses between the upper and lower flanges I2 and I4 and the adjacent portions or the inner side of the base plate I0. Each of said clips has an intermediate part I02 which is inwardly offset transversely of the end'portions 98 and I08 for engagement between the laterally offset p'ortionsor flanges 82 and 88 at the adjacent side of the main clip 84. The clip 9'6 also has a laterally offset and upwardly directed portion I84 which extends above the top of the base plate and provides means for facilitating the manipulation of the auxiliary clip for fastening the base plate to the main clip 84. The manner of attaching the base plate I0 to the main clips 84 by means of the auxiliary clips 96 is illustrated in Fig. 18. It will be observed that the base plate I8 is disposed adjacent to the main clip 84 with the side of the base plate parallel-to the adjacent side 88 of the auxiliary clip and in this relative position of the base plate and the main clip, the auxiliary clip is first positioned substantially as shown in Fig. 18 with the rounded corner I86 of the lower edge portion I00 in engagement with the lower flange I4 of the base plate, in the recess formed by said flange, after which the auxiliary clip is turned in the direction of the arrow A parallel to the plane of base plate II) for bringing the intermediate part I82 of the auxiliary clip "into vertical position, with said intermediate part disposed between the laterally offset parts 88 and 92 of the clip. It will be noted that the laterally offset portion 92 at one side of the clip 84 projects oppositely to the corresponding laterally offset part 92 at the other side of the clip so that the auxiliary clips 96 for each main clip 84 are offset from each The clip- 88A illustrated by other in the direction of the length of the base. It will be noted that the upwardly-projecting part I04 of the auxiliary clip not only provides a handle sothat the auxiliary clip may be manipulated above the base plates Iilbut also pro vide a reinforcement of the plaster at the joint between the plaster and the top of the base plate.
. Figs. 20 and 21 show a clip I58 which is of substantially the same construction as the auxiliary clip 96 but which, like the clips of Figs. 8 to 18, is used for fasteninga base plate to a wall for forming the base of the facing which is subsequently applied thereto. As here shown the clip I08 includes the upper and lower portions III) and H2 which are in vertical registry to engage the upper andlower flanges I2 and I4, respectively, of the base plate in the recesses formed by said flanges. The transversely offset intermediate portion H6 is provided with the laterally disposed and upwardly extending part H8 which projects-beyond the top of the base plate and is provided with holes I20 for nails or other fastening means I22 for securing the clip to the building wall W. The plaster facing, indicated at F, is applied after the base plate I0 is secured to the building wall, as will be readily understood, and may fill the space between the base plate and the building wall as shown. v I
Fig. 22 illustrates the use of the main and auxiliary clips 84 and 96 for providing a base for a plaster wall which is spaced from a building wall W. It will be understood that the main and auxiliary clips shown in Figs. 1 to 7 may be similarly used. 7 I I Referring again to the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 7, it will be noted that the auxiliary clip I8 (or 18A) of the same size and shape may be used for base plates II) of a different height, for example, with base plates which are 2 or 3" or 3 or 4 high, etc. The main clip I6 is of the same construction for base plates of different heights and are adapted for base plates of different heights by the length of vertical edges 28 of parts 24 or by the vertical distance of edges 26 above bottom part 20. Although the auxiliary clips I8 or I8A have been described as extending above the base plate I0, thereby providing handles for said clips, it is within the scope of the invention to dispense with this feature. Ordinarily, the auxiliary clips I8 or IBA are of such length as to extend above a base plate II) which is 2 high, but when said, clips are used with a base plate which is 3" high, the upper ends of said clips are about flush with the top edge of the base plate, and when said clips are used with base plates which are 3 high, or higher, the upper ends of said clips are below the upper edgeof the base plate. It will be noted that plates 22 of main clips I6 and transverse portions 62 of clips 54 (Fig. 8) are preferably, but not necessarily, of such width that inner edge of the lower flange of the base plate I0 abuts the adjacent vertical edges of said plate 22,-in the case of clips I6, and the adjacent vertical ,edges of portions 62 in the case of clips 54 (Fig. 8)-, substantial-ly as shown.
As pointed out above-the wings 32 and 34 at one side edge of the clip I8 extend in a direction opposite-to the wings 32 and 34 at the opposite side edge of the same clip. This enables all of the. auxiliary clips I8 to be, of the same shape for use at either side edge of clip I8, so that it is unnecessary to provide left and right aux- 111.39 iliary clips. This .feature 1 also. applies to clips 84-(Figs. 14 to 16),, it. being'noted that portion 92 of part 88 at one side-.of the clip extends in a 7 direction opposite tonthat of portion 92 of part 88 at the other side of the clip, so that the auxiliary clips 96-may be; used ateither side of the base. 7
. Figs. 24 tov 27 show several different forms of bases to which the present-invention is applied,
it being understood however. that thebases herein shown are illustrative but-not exhaustive of various forms which the base may take accord ing to the specifications for a particular building. For-example, in Fig. 24the-invention is shown applied to a base; in' which. the base plates IIJA are of the 'covetype. Inthis type of base, the base plate IIIA has an outwardly projecting or cove part I24, and alower yertical portion I26 the height ofwhichucorresponds.to-the depth of the floor finishing layer'indicated more or less schematically atr I28. It" will. be understood by persons familiar witltthis art that the floor finishing layer may be formed of tile, wood, or of any other suitable material.- In. this form of base, the lower flanges of projections USA of the base plates, which correspond to the lower flanges or projections I4 of the above mentioned base plates I (Figs. -1 to 22), areconstituted by parts of sheet metal strips I30which-are of the same lengths as the companion base plates'and are secured thereto in any suitable way, here shown as spot welding indicated at" I 32.- In thebase shown in Fig. the. base plates 10B have inwardly directed or curved upper" portions I34 so that the baseinay project laterally beyond the plaster line, that is, outwardly beyond the outersurface of the plaster facings P. Due to the outward lateral projection of the main part of the base plate in relation to the upper flange or projection I2, the lower flange or projection I IB, which corresponds tothe flange or projection I4 of base plate In and which is engaged by the lower ends of the auxiliaryclipslll, is formed as part of a sheet metal stripIEBB. Said strip I3DB is in general similar to the strip I (Figs. 23 and 24) and like the latter is spot welded as indicated at I32. It will be understood that strip ISiIB lent the same length'as the companion base plate, and, as here shown, such strip is provided with a lateral offset I36 to compensate for projection of "the baseplate outwardly of the upper flange I 2. In the form of the invention illustrated in Fig. 26'the base is of the cove type, similar, in general, to that shown in Fig. 24, but has in addition the inwardly directed ,up per portion ISAC so that the base plate IDC projects be:- yond the plaster line or outer surface of the plaster facing P. Also as here shown the lower part I260 of the base plate Inc is shown higher than the lower part I02 of the cove base plates IDA corresponding to a finishing floor layer I28C of greater depth than that indicated in Fig. 24. As in the case of Figs. 24 and 25, the lower projections or flanges I IC of the base plates IIJC are parts of sheet metal strips I300 which are spot welded to the companion base plates'as indicated at I32, strips IBIJCjbeing of a suitable shape to compensate for the increased outward projection of the side of the base plate in relation to'the upper flange I2 due td-the cove formation provided in the base plate 'IOC in conjunction with the inwardly directed upper portions I340. In Fig. 27 the base is shown as of the cove type, and the base plates I [ID are in addition provided with inwardly directed but outwardly convex of the floor finishing layer is indicated at I28D.
The lower flanges or projections I4D whichcorrespond to'the lower projections orflanges of base plate I 0 are, as in the case of Figs. 24 to 26, parts of sheet metal strips I3IID which arespot welded to the companion base plates IUD as indicated at I32, said strips I 30D being of the same length as the companion base plates IUD respectively. It will be noted that in each'of the forms of bases shown by Figs. 24 to 27- inclusivethe the inner edges of the lower flanges'or projections, MA, ME, MG and MD'abut the adjacent side edges respectively of the companion main clips l6, as described above with reference to the flanges or projections I4 of base plates I0. It will be observed further in; this connection that the upper flanges or projections of base plates IIIA, IOB, IOC and IOD are indicated by the reference numeral I2 as they correspond to the upper flanges I2 of base plates II] and like said upper flanges engage the wings 24 of the main clips It. It will be understood that Figs. 24- to 26 are by no means exhaustive of the various types of bases requiring base plates of various forms. Also it will be understood that base plates of the type shown in Figs. 24 to 27, and similar base plates of various configurations may be used in conjunction with furred walls, with previously erected walls (Fig. 8), with hollow partition walls, etc., as will be readily appreciated by persons familiarwith this art. Also, it will be understood base plates of the type shown in Figs. 10 to 27 may be secured in position by clips of the type shown in Figs. 8 to 22, although clips of the type shown in Figs. 1 to 9. and Figs. 24 to 27 are presently preferred;
It will be understoodthat various changes in the details of construction may be made without departing from the underlying'idea or principles of my invention within the scope of the appended claims. 1
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A wall construction of the character described comprising. a base plate provided with upper and lower projections at the inner side thereof to form upper and lower recesses with said inner side, a main clip member having a part for securement to the building and an upwardly extending part, said upwardly extending part being provided with at least a pairof flanges extending therefrom in substantially parallel relation with said base plate, and an auxiliary clip member having an end portion. thereof engaged in said lower recess of the base plate and an intermediate portion thereof interengaged between said flanges to fasten said base plate to said main clip member, one of said clip members having a part thereof engaged in said upper recess of the base plate.
2. A wall construction of the character described, comprising a base plate provided with upper and lower projections at the inner side thereof to form upper and lower recesses with said inner side, amainclip member having'a part for securement to the building and an upwardly extending part, said upwardly extending part being provided with at least a pair of flanges "extending therefrom in substantially parallel relation'with said base plate, and an auxiliary clip member having an end portion thereof engaged in said lower recess of the base plate and an intermediate portion thereof interengaged between said flanges to fasten said base 11 plate to said main clip member, and said upwardly extending part of said main clip member having aportion extending transversely of said flanges and'engaged' in said upper recess of the base plate.
3.- A wall construction of the character described comprising, a base plate provided with upper and lower projections at the'inner side thereof to form upper and lower recesses with saidinner side, a main clip member having a part for securement to the building and an upwardly extending part, said upwardly extending part being provided with at least a pair of flanges extendingtherefrom in substantially parallel relation with saidbase plate, said flanges being mutually laterally offset, and an auxiliary clip member having free end portions engaged in said base plate recesses,'respectively, to connect the base plate to said auxiliary clip member, said auxiliary clip member having an intermediate portion offset laterally of said end portions and interengaged between said flanges to connect said auxiliary member, and thereby the base plate, to said main clip member.
4. A clip assembly for securing to a building a base plate provided with upper and lower projections at the inner side thereof to form upper and lower recesses with said inner side, said assembly comprising a main clip member having a substantially horizontal part for securement to thewbuilding and" an' upwardly extending part, said upwardly extending part being provided with atleast a pair of flanges extending therefrom in substantially normal relation with the plane of said securement part, and an auxiliary clip memberhaving an end portion thereof for engagement in the lower recess-of the base plate and an intermediate portion thereof interengaged between said flanges to fasten the base plate to said main clip members, one of said clip members having a part thereof for engagement in the upper recess of the base plate.
5. A clip assembly for securing to a building a base plate provided withuppei and lower projections at the inner side thereof to form upper and lower recesses with said innerside, said assembly comprising a main clip member having a substantially horizontal part for securement to the building and an upwardly extending 'part, said upwardly extending part being provided with at least a pair of flanges extending therefrom in substantially normal relation with the plane of said securement part, and an auxiliary'cli'p member having an end portion thereof for engagement in the lower'recess of the'base plate and an intermediate portion thereof interengaged between said flanges to fastenthebase plate to said main clip member, and'said upwardly extending part of said main clip member having a portion extending transversely of said flanges for engagement in the upper recess of'the base plate.
6. A clip assembly for securing to a building a base plate provided with upper and lower projections at the inner side thereof to form upper and lower recesses with said inner side, said assembly comprising a main clip member having a substantially horizontal part for securement to the building and an upwardly extending part, said upwardly extending part being provided with at least a pair of flanges extending therefrom in substantially normal relation with the plane of said securement part, said flanges being mutually laterally offset, and an auxiliary clip member having free end portions for engagement in the base plate recesses, respectively, to connect the base plate to saidauxiliary clip member, said auxiliary clip member having an intermediate portion offset laterally of said end portions and interengaged between said flanges to connect said auxiliary member, and thereby the base plate, to said main clip member.
7. A clip assembly for securing to a building a base plate provided with upper'and lower projections at the inner side thereof to form upper and lower recesses with'said inner side, said assembly comprising a main clip member having a substantially horizontal part for securement to the building and an upwardly extending part, said upwardly extending part being provided with at least a pair of flanges extending therefrom in substantially normal relation with the plane of said securement part, and an auxiliary clip member having an end portion thereof for engagement in the lower recess of the base plate and an intermediate portion thereof interengaged between said flanges to fasten the base plate to said main clip member, one of said clip members having a part thereof for engagement in the upper recess of the base, plate, and one of said flanges having an offset prong engaged with said auxiliary clip member to oppose separation of said two clip members.
8. A clip assembly for. securing to a building a base plate provided with, upper. and lower projections at the inner side thereof to form upper and lower recesses with said inner side, said assembly comprising a main clip member having a substantially horizontal part for seourement. to the building and an upwardly extending part, said upwardly extending part being provided with at least a pair of flanges extending therefrom in substantially normal relation with the plane of said securement part, and an auxiliary clip member having an end portion thereof for engagement in the lower recess of the base plate and an intermediate portion thereof interengaged between said flanges to fasten the base plate to said main clip member, one of said clip members having a part thereof for engagement in the upper recess of the base plate, and said auxiliary clip member having a part which extends upwardly ofthe upwardly extending part of said main clip member, said last mentioned part of said auxiliary clip member providing a handle accessible above 'the base plate to engage said auxiliary clip member with the base plate and with said main clip member.
