My invention, in the form or embodiment shown in the drawings and briefly described, comprises a pair of clamping members, 10 and 11, which are provided at one 'of their ends with hinged portions, 12, through which the pin, 13, extends for pivotally mounting them. For the purpose of strengthening the clamping members, 10 and 11, and for facilitating their being readily handled, I provide each with a longltu dinally extending outwardly bulged portion along their substantial entire length.

The handle, 11, is formed with a plurality of upwardly extending struck-up portlons, or lugs, 14, located adjacent to the hinged end, which are of a diameter andof the required distance apart to accommodatethe ordinary double edged blade of the Gillette type. It is obvious, of course, that these lugs may be formed to accommodate blades of other types.

It will be noted with reference to the several figures of the accompanying drawings that the razor blade, 15, is securely held flatwise between the clamping members, 10 and 11, when theblade is in its locked position, or as shown in Figure 3. .The lugs, 14, pass through the respective openings in the blade, and their upper extremity substantially fit the inner side of the outwardly bulged portion of the clamping member, 10, for preventing any sidewise movement between the clamping members.

For the purpose of providing an efficient guard for the unexposed edge of the safety razor blade, .15, and a means for securely clamping or looking the handles, 10 and 11, I provide aswiveled arm, 16, which preferably extends slightly beyond the extreme ends of the clamping members. The guard, 16, is substantially U-shaped in cross section along its entire'length for not only strengthenlng and preventing its distortion, but for the purpose of permitting each of its edges, 16, to bear against the outwardly bulged portions of the clamping members, 10 and 11, for firmly holdin them together.

A connecting strip, 17, extends between the hinged portions of the member, 11, preferably formed integral therewith, and is slightly spaced from them, as is shown in Figure 1 for the purpose of receiving the headedend of the pivot, 18, of the swivel block, 19. The guard, 16, is, in turn, pivoted to the swivel block, 19, as indicated at 20,

which it will be noted is arranged transversely or at a right angle with respect to the pivot, 18.

By reason of the fact that the pivots, 18 and 20, are centrally located with respect to the clamping members, 10 and 11, the

guard may be effectually swung from one edge of the handle to the opposite edge, as, for example, when it is desired to hone or strop both edges of the same blade. This isvillustrated by dotted lines in Figure 1, wherein the guard, 16, is shown as removed from the upper edges of the clamping members, 10 and 11, and is about to be clamped against the lower edges of the clamping members.

In theembodiment of my invention illustrated in Figure 5'it will be noted that the hinge, 12, and the swivel member, 19, are

located on the ends of the clamping members, 10 and 11, opposite from the end on which the blade, 15 is held. In this form of my invention the pivotal points being located on the hand holding end, the opposite or blade holding end may be relatively shortened.

I am aware of the fact that there are a great many devices for resharpening safety razor blades, but I know of no device which is as simple, absolutely safe from a practical standpoint and as highly effective a my present safety razor blade holder and stropper I claim:

In a razor blade holder, comparatively fiat blade like clampingarms, means for fixing a razor blade between and relative to said arms, said blade projecting beyond the arms mboth directlons, and a single bladeguard of U-shape in cross section swiveled at one end of the arms to permit the guard to be moved to either side of the arms, said guard when in operative relation to the blade completely enclosing the projecting portion of the blade at one side of the arms and clamping the adj aeent edges of the arms, the guard beyond the blade-enclosing portion clamping the similar edges of the arms and serving with said arms to provide a handle portion, whereby the guard is prevented from inoperative movement While the holder is in use.
