LTNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRIEDRICH W. SOHULZ, OF MOUNT PLEASANT, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROAD-SCRAPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,433, dated December 21, 1875; application filed' November 18, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH W. sorrow, of Mount Pleasant, in the county of Henry and in theState of Iowa, have invented oer tain new and useful Improvements in Road- Scrapers and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making apart of this speci fication.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a road-scraper, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my roadscraper, showing the same turned over for moving from place to place. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same in position for use.- Fig. 3 is a front View of the road-scraper with d, having a wheel, G, upon each end, thus supporting the road-scraper on said Wheels. On the bottom of the scraper-box A, at the rear end, are formed or attached shoes 0 e, as shown, to prevent wear of the box when in use. On the rear of the scraper is a spring-hook, H, to catch on the cross-bar or bail E of the handles, for holding it when the scraper is loaded. I is thetongue, havinga cross-bar, J, atits rear end, and metal straps L L extending from the tongue under and in rear of the ends of said crossbar, and the extreme ends of said straps are placed upon the pivot-bolts a a. Near one end of the cross-barJ is pivoted a spring-hook, 1?, which is to catch on a pin, 2', projecting from the side of the handle D, to hold the scraper when emptied. In operation it will be seen the scraper is raised and lowered at will by means of the handles D D, as the scraper is hung on a line away from the axle.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The spring-hook P, attached to the tonguecross-bar J, in combination with the handles D,-pin z, scraper A, and hook H, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 18th day of October, 1875.
FRIEDRICH W. SOHULZ.
