- The main object of-this invention is to provide an improved framework for an all glass showcase, and/also to provide an improved construction of top and-corner connection. H Objects relating to details and economies of m invention willappear from the detaile is defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which: I
F 1 is a perspective view of a showcase embodying the features of my invention.
Fig. 2 an enlarged detail fragmentary view of a corner structure taken from the inside of the showcase, the portionsof the top and side being removed and the side plate being partially in section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail fragmentary sectional elevation diagonally through the corner of the showcase taken on section line 3-3 of Figs. 2 and 4, showing details of the corner post connections.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail sectional view on line 44 of Figs. 1 and 3, showing de- -tails of the post and corner bracket, the glass and glass retainerstrips being omitted at the corner.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail sectional View of the top and coupling dowell or pin, the frame being on the same section line 33 and the pin in full lines. Y.
Fig. 6 is a detail elevation view of the camming clip member for joining the top corner pin to the corner post of the frame.
The parts will be identified by their numerals of reference which are the same in all the views. I
1 is the base supported on suitable legs 2 having a floor 3 with surrounding base mold 4. 5 is the metallic top frame carrying the glass 6 which is grooved to fit the top edges of the side glass. The glass is retained by the usual strip 7. 8 are the corner posts grooved to' receive the side glass 9. The lower edges of the glass fit within the bot tom mold 4, and are retained by strip 91.
The bottom of the'corner post is provided with a do\vnwardly-projecting pin 10 and is secured in place by a corner bracket 11 provided with suitable bore 101. The corner bracket is retained in place on the floor by screws 12 and the pin 10 is detachably endescription to follow. The invention gaged by the headless set screw 13 whcreby the corner can be very quickly assenibled and tightly secured inplace.
, The top frame 5 is provided with down- Wardly-extending pins 14 notched at 141-at each corner which fitinto bores 81in the top of the post 8. Each post is notched at 82 on its inner side with a beveling or camming surface 83 at the upper side of the notch. A clip piece 15 is secured by cross screw 16 to the pin 14: and at its lower end engages notch 141. The upper end 151 is deflected outwardly and engages and cams against thesurface 83. This draws the top frame securely down to place against the upper edge of the side glass and closes the joint securely, thereby effectively securing the parts together and in such manner that they may be very readily assembled or taken down for repair or for transportation. A glass retainer strip 7 is also secured by screws to the inside of such corner. 'post" which conceals the fastenings.
I have described my structure in its preferred form. The connections for the corner posts are available invarious relations. The top can be effectively secured in the manner indicated when the bottom is otherwise secured, On the other hand, the securing of the bottom is very effective and is available in other relations. However, the whole structure is effective and complete,
R'Aims. MIC IGAN. Assrsfuon, BY as is msand I desire to claim the same specifically appended claims.
, Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 'Patent is:
1. A showcase comprising a bottom, corner-brackets containing sockets with oblique set screws, corner posts with coupling pins detachably engaged by'saidset screws and having sockets at .the tops with lateral as well as broadly as pointed out in the '90 notches with cam surfaces at their upper 1 sides, a top comprising a metallic frame with downwardly-depending notched pins at the corners to fit said post sockets, and
clip pieces engaging the notches of said pins to place,coacting as specified;
"2. A showcase comprising corner posts and said cam surfaces for drawing the same having sockets at the tops with lateral notches with cam surfaces at their upper sides, a top comprising a metalhc frame with downwardly-depending notched pins at llO each corner to fit said post sockets, and clip pieces engaging the notches of said pins and said cam surfaces for drawing the same to place, coacting as specified.
A showcase comprising a corner post having a socket at the top with a lateral notch with cam surface at its upper side,
and atop comprising a metallic frame with downwardly-depending pin at the corner to fit said post socket, and clip piece attached to said pin and engaging the cam surface, as specified.
4. A show case comprising a bottom, a corner bracket containing a socket with oblique set screw within the case, anda corner post with coupling pin engaged by said set screw and said post forced downwardly thereby.
5. A show case with glass panels, comprising a bottom with base corner bracket structure with socket, a corner post grooved to receive the glass and having a pin at the bottom engaging sald base corner bracket socket and having a socket bore at the top,
EDMUND MORRIS.
