lMPiROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,385, dated December 21, 1875; application filed August 21, 1875. I

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, EDWARD M. JUDD, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawin gs,which form part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in curtain-fixtures; and it consists in a spring clampin g device, formed in two parts and hinged together, by means of which the roller is prevented from revolving and the curtain held in any desired position, as will be more fully described hereinafter.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.

a represents the roller around which the curtain is wound, and which has one of its ends supported by the bracket 0. This bracket is formed 'of two pieces, the upper one, r1, of which is-rigid, and forms a half-circle. Pivoted to this upper partd, at e, is the lower half, g, which forms the lower half of a circle, the two parts together forming a socket to receive the end of the roller. This pivoted part 9 forms a clamp, which is drawn upward by the spring 15, attached to its inner end against the under side of the roller, so as to prevent the roller from revolving while the clamp is in contact with it. By drawing down upon the cord or wire V the roller will be released from the pressure of the clamp, when the spring in the roller is free to act, and the curtain will at once be rolled up.

Upon the bracket 0 is formed a shoulder, 3, which serves as a stop to the clamp g, to prevent the spring from being stretched by too severe pulls.

Iain aware that independent pivoted springlevers have been attached to the bracket for the purpose of clamping the end of the roller, and these I disclaim. My clamping lever forms the lower halt of the bracket and the bearing for the roller, thus enabling me to make the bracket as small and compact aspossible, so that it will not project out into the room.

What I- claim is- A bracket composed of two parts, one of which is rigid and the other movable, the movable part being pivoted at e, and made to clamp the roller up against the rigid part by the spring t, substantially as shown and described.
