IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINISTS OILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,339, dated December 21, 1875; application filed September 27, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OsoAR J. BAcKUs, of the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ma chinists Oilers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use'the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates more especially, though not exclusively, to that class of oilers used to lubricate sewing-machines, and in which the body of the can is constructed of transparent glass, to enable the operator to readily see how much oil is in the can when using it, or to fill thesame when empty, without the inconveniences consequent upon the use of cans having a metallic body.
My invention consists in constructing the transparent body of the can with grooves arranged around its diameter at the top and bottom, Within which are adjusted rubberrin gs or bands, the object of which is to prevent the glass body from being broken in case of falls or of contact with hard substances.
Referring to the drawing, A represents the transparent glass body of the oiler, which may be made of any desired shape or configuration, and provided with grooves at the top and bottom, within which are adjusted the rubber rings or bands a. 0 represents the spring-bottom, secured to the body A in the usual manner, and B represents the ejecting. nozzle.
The advantages of my invention will be readily apparent, inasmuch as the glass body A is not liable to breakage when provided with the rubber bands, and also the supply of oil in the same can be regulated at will.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. In combination with an oiler for sewingmachines and other purposes, constructed as herein described, the rubber bands a, for the purpose set forth.
2. The herein-described oiler, consisting of the transparent body A, provided with the rubber bands at, spring-bottom O, and nozzle B, the several parts being arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
