IMPROVEMENT IN ENVELOPES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,306, dated December 21, 1875; application filed April 27, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ERNEST J. NoLiN, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new, useful, and 1mproved Envelope for protecting furs and other articles from moths and other insects while the articles are not in use; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,-and exact description of my invention, and that the same, in connection with the accompanyin g drawings forming a part hereof, will en able others skilled in the art to which my inven- ,tion appertains to make and use the said envelope for the purposes for which it is intended.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a front elevation of an envelope embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 a rear elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a section.

My object is to make a cheap envelope or wrapper especially adapted for the purposes set forth; and to that end I make the envelope of tough paper, preferably lined with linen or other suitable lining, and constructed substantially as hereinafter described.

A represents the envelope, which consists of a bag made of tough paper, preferably lined in the manner herejnbefo're referred to, and hermetically sealed, excepting at the mouth or opening a. It will be observed that this opening lies across one side of the bag, and is'arranged below the top thereof. Above the opening a is a flap, c, on the under side of which dry mucilage is spread. This flap is constructed and arranged to admit of the opening a being wholly covered by it, and is preferably extended into the lateral wings e e, also covered, on their rear sides, with dry mucilage. Above the flap care the eyelets e e. In order to prevent the eyelets from being torn from the bagI deem it preferable to seal together those parts of the bag through which they pass, thus making that part of the bag tougher and stronger. c is a cord or loop arranged in the eyelets to admit of the bag being suspended thereby. The eyelets and loop, however, are only essential for this purpose. This envelope is made in one piece, preferably, one end of which forms the lower edge of the flap, and the other end of which forms the lower edge of the opening a. The sides or lateral edges of one part of this piece are folded over the lateral edges of the other part, as represented at d d, the remaining part of the construction being completed by folding down the flap in the manner shown and Having thus described my invention, whatv I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

As a new article of manufacture, the envelope or bag A, having in one side the horizontal opening a, arranged below the upper end thereof, and provided with the eyelets c 6, arranged in its upper end, and with the flap 0 arranged below the said eyelets and above the said opening, substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
