DEVICE FOR INSER'IING PILLOWS IN SIJIPS.

Application filed July 20, 1927. Serial No. 207,235.

This invention relatesto a device for inserting pillows in slips.

Considerable time is lost in institutions such as hospitals and the like in inserting pillows in slips, each of these operations occupying considerable time An important object of thepresent invention is to provide a novel device in which the pillow may be enclosed whereby it readily may be inserted in the illow slip, the device being releasable from the pillow to permit it to be withdrawn after the pillow is inserted in the slip.

A further object is to provide a light resilient device comprising a pair of members adapted to be clamped against opposite sides of a pillow to permit it readily to be inserted in a pillow slip.

A further object is to provide novel means whereby the resilient frames readily may be released to permit them to be withdrawn from the pillow slip after the pillow inserted therein.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral designates a pillow adapted to be inserted in a slip 11. The device forming the subject matter of the present invention comprises a pair of frames 12 and 13, as shown in detail in Figure 3, these frames preferably being formed of resilient wire and including longitudinal parallel members i i and transverse end members 15. The frame 12 is providml at one end with a longitudinal project locking member 16 having its central port n turned inwardly as at 17 to form a hook, for a purpose to be described. The frame member 13 also is provided with a longitudinal extension 18 having a transverse bar 1.9 at its extremity adapted to be arranged beneath the hook 17. The side portions of the pro jection 18 are adapted to extend between the side portions of the projection 16, as shown indotted lines in Figure 1.

and is provided with a transverse handle portion 22. The corresponding end of the frame 13 is provided with a loop member 23 which extends around the projection 20 formed on the frame 12. The latter elements are loosely associated with each other to per mit the frames to partake of considerable relative movement with respect to each other.

After the pillow insorted in the manner described, the loop 23 may be pulled. upwardly with a sudden j erklng movement, or the operator may grasp the transverse portion of the loop and the handle 22 together to cause the frames 12 and 13 to move longitudinally with respect to each other. This action releases the bar 19 from the hook fli' whereupon the device readily may be withdrawn from the open end of the pillow slip. It will be apparent that the friction of the pillow against the slip will prevent them from sliding with respect to each other while the frames are withdrawn, and consequently the pillow will remain in position in the pillow slip.

Itis to be understood that the form of the invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the portions on their. opposite ends, one of said portions comprising hook means normally engaging'said other portion and releasable therefrom upon relative movement of said handle and said loop portion.

A device of the character described comprising a pair of resilient frame members each including a )luralit of spaced longitudinal bars and having handle portions adjacent one end, the handle of one of said members being loosely engaged about the handle of the other of said members, and

providing means for swinging said frame members toward and away from each other and for relative longitudinal movement, a hook carried by the other end of one of said members, and a bar carried by the other end of the other of said members and adapted to engage said hook, said bar being releasable from said hook upon relative movement of said handle portions.
